All the FA Cup First Round goals are being shown on a constant loop on BBC Interactive (via the red button on any BBC channel) all day today until midnight.

They don't show much. No kick-off shown for our 23 second goal, Maher's pass the set up the equaliser isn't shown and the second penalty isn't show or mentioned.

But I suppose as they've got 40 matches to get through, they can't show too much from each of them - if they only show 1 minute from each, then it's going to take 40 minutes to get through all of them!

I've not seen our goals yet, I tried earlier, but they were on Altrincham - Barnet - Barrow, so I knew there'd be ages until they got to "S"!

Hardly one for the neutrals, it has to be said! They want to show non-league teams playing strange football that somehow accounts for league teams sometimes. A 2-1 win by a decent League One team at homeagainst League Two midtablers is not particularly interesting.

Just on now actually. Enjoyed how the commentator says Matt Harrold "made no mistake from the spot". Nice work. I actually think the ref got it spot on with the penalty. There wasn't intent so a booking would have been harsh but he definitely went through him. I have no idea how the guy writing the 'Dale report has called it contentious!

Always a pleasant little touch when they say things like that. I had a right old swear at the telly last Tuesday when the bird on BBC London felt compelled to say:

"...and Southend were thrashed 4-1 at Nottingham Forest"

Alright love, no need to put it like that :thump:

Well done today to Horsham they won 4-1 in front of an excellent crowd of 3,379 and they were only playing Maidenhead. Only 2,300 at Billericay thought they were on for a 3,000 crowd?

Swansea didn't sell anywhere near their 1,000 allocation for the game, they only bought 300 or so fans down.

The Swans drew Horsham away yesterday as well, they'll probably be sick of Ryman premier sides by the time they get to the third round!

When ITV get the televising rights I dare say the coverage will be significantly improved.

Surely this comment is tongue in cheek? We all know that despite over 40 year's experience, ITV's sports coverage was, is and always will be pss poor. (See threads below re.Carling Cup/Chamionship + other threads ad nauseum and (er, can't remember the latin for future threads)).

There is no way that coverage is going to improve when ITV take coverage from BBC. A significant deterioration is inevitable, as noted in pretty much everything ITV take from BBC whether sporting or otherwise!

As for MoTD, the reason that there used to be more FA Cup coverage not many years ago is that BBC had the FA Cup rights, but not the Premiership (the dark days when ITV had it). So it's hardly surprising that they find it a struggle to fit everything in when they have Premier£hite footy to fit in too.

I do think that they could have cut 5 mins of the more tedious coverage from the Premier League and given it to the FA Cup, but, as said above, what with Southend 2 Rochdale 1 not being the top priority, would even that have given us the goals being shown? Possibly the non-penalties at best.

Knowing Groyne Strain's style of posting, you've hit the nail right on the head there.... ;)

Of course the coverage is poor in this Post-Sky era but, bearing in mind the Beeb only showed coverage or goals of the games their target audience may be vaguely interested in, it's hardly surprising Southend v Rochdale wasn't shown. I'm puzzled by some of the anger shown here.

It will be interesting to see how ITV respond to the challenge laid down to them by the BBC. The BBC are clearly treading on ITV's toes by dumbing down by employing "pundits" like Ian Wright, the bland Alan "we'd all rather you went and creosoted your fence than opened your mouth" Shearer and keeping on a clearly disinterested Hansen.

I have every faith that ITV can respond to this coverage by plumbing the depths even lower. With the role of "star" "expert" "summariser" now being occupied by wannabe comedian Mark Lawrensen, expect ITV to turn to Ant and Dec (again) to recreate the Lawrensen role by growing 'taches and attempting unfunny one liners.

If Gazza can be dragged out of the pub by ITV once more, he can recreate the Ian Wright role of speaking $hite and getting excited in a way no-one can work out what they are on about. Ron Atkinson will have to be forgiven for his off-mic outburst in order to counteract Lineker's orange-ness and provide the footballing credibility by the occasional insight every couple of weeks. Andy Townsend is like a Lee Dixon-lite. The BBC's wildcard could still be Jamie Redknapp. Who have even ITV got as pointless as him?

And is there anyone you do like?! :flamer:

He's got a point though.
Which pundit is worth watching?
BBC are renowned for employing people who won't openly criticise anybody. ITV just engage has-beens (Townsend, McCoist & especially that **** Pleaty spring to mind).
Sky make me want to kick the TV, especially the performing monkeys (Merson, Le Tissier & Thompson are the worst) on Soccer Saturday!

I'm struggling amongst the TV lot.

Lineker occasionally says something of worth between the unfunny puns, even though he is the anchor. Hansen use to be good. Andy Gray use to be good on Sky, don't know if he still is.

The radio guys are a lot better. Collymore knocked spots off most of his rivals when he was given a go, analytical and insightful. Graham Taylor might have been a crap England manager but is a fairly decent pundit. Oh and whilst he might not be able to pronounce a single foreign name, David Pleat clearly actually knows a lot about the game. Chris Kamara also clearly knows his stuff. They actually add something. I think its telling that Taylor, Pleat and Kamara all managed (although not necessarily successfully).

Sorry, IMHO, Pleaty's a sex-pest & should not be allowed on air!

Surely what he does out of office hours makes him better qualified than most to discuss the merits of Ronaldo, Anderson and Nani?

I'd have also thought the term sex-pest would be better employed on someone who pestered someone (a la Shane Warne's texting) rather than someone who engaged in an act with a fully consenting adult?

I just hate David Pleat (years of exposure to Watford fans have done that to me).

HE'S A FILTHY LUTON PERVERT AND HIS NAME IS DAVID PLEAT.

Why, what have the slimy ManUtd trio been up to?

Pleat gets a lot of unfair stick. I'm a fan of his commentary, even though he does tend to mangle player names (DaBeasley Marcus anyone? Let's hope he never has to commentate on Kenny Lunt). As YB says, he clearly knows his stuff.

They've got some cracking pundits on RTE in Ireland - Eamonn Dunphy and Johnny Giles are both excellent, even if the former is a right miserable so and so.

My least favourite pundit by some distance is Paul Merson. Why Sky still have him on is beyond me.

Although they do employ that utter sloshed **** Ronnie Whelan too!

Merson's front tooth fell out, live on Soccer Saturday this weekend!
