And yet some plonkers would prefer to play our youngsters as opposed to the quality loanees with sign. I'm sure the gaffer is a good enough judge having seen these players day in day out.

The difference in quality between the top grades academies and our own is miles apart, the majority of our decent youngsters get snapped up long before they reach our development squads let alone our first team.

its a shame as romantically we love our own youngsters coming through, realistically the game and money and expectation levels have changed.

In truth a Managers career is too result based to truly follow the youth route.
very few if any can match Man Utds results with their golden generation and the odd youth player making it through is a bonus.
you only need to look at the quality of loanees our club has bought in under Phil Brown to see why the youth policy will never win thru.
on the other hand Bentley was progressed because he was good enough and Ted Smith is being blooded as well. A mixture of the two is a realistic approach taken by the vast majority of clubs especially lower league clubs who feed on the scraps of youth talent left by premier league clubs.
The Blues are in my mind following the right course where youth gets its chance if it's good enough

Something must have gone on behind the scenes here. We've suddenly gone from giving him a 2 year to him being released. A bit fishy?!

put incredibly simplistically...

2 players a year creates a 20 man squad every 10 years. that in itself is unsustainable when you take into account that most premier league clubs will release 10+ players every year whom the vast majority will go on to have a decent career in the football league, and the fact that so many imports come in especially at the top end of the game.

for arguments sake if most premier league clubs are producing 10 FL career quality players, and championship clubs are producing say 4 each year, it doesnt leave a lot of spaces to fill from the 48 other clubs does it.

Or it's because he is not good enough for us or he not worked hard enough on the training ground .... He didn't make an impact at East Thurrock Utd when he was on loan there! If you can't make an impact at Ryman level, how you can do it in football league. I expect he end up at Concord or Canvey Island FC!

Maybe PB wants to bring another player in and needs to get one or two off the books before doing so? It would be interesting to know how Michael Richardson from Newcastle performed in the behind closed doors game with Colchester. We know that Richardson scored but we there has been little indication how he played. Apparently, Peter Beardsley rates him highly and recommended him to Phil Brown.
