Midweek breaks

Brugges is a beautiful city and if planned right you could watch FC Brugges in action,At that time go skating on the river network..Great fun.

Chadded, went to Copenhagen in August with work and have to say it was a lovely place. Ny Havn was a nice spot sitting out in the sun with lashings of ale and some top scrag to be had. Not to mention there was a great ratio of danish meat on show but then again it was summer!! If you go, get yourself stuck into some Akvavit and a plate of curried herring! steer clear of the steak tatare though, as it doesnt go down too well after 10 pints!!

Oslo has the Munch art gallery and Akershaus castle which is a WW2 Norwegian Resistance museum, Hollmenkollen ski jump (take the lift!), Aasgardstarnd beach, oh lots but yes, beer about £10 a pint! Oh and you can only buy wine or spirit from the "Monopoly Shops" which are Government run and have limited opening times.
Not many drunks in Oslo!

What about Venice Chadded.

Lovely place, wont be expensive over half term as who is going to take there kids and you will look like a right romantic.

Took the Mrs a few years ago and she loved it....

Brugges and Venice are good shouts

I would also chuck Verona into the ring, close enough to Venice and a nice little train ride to boot, plus a whole host of other bits like there own coliseum, Juliets Balcony where its good luck to give Juliets brass statue a boob rub, lovely bars and restaurants. Not the warmest in Feb but then you don't have millions of divs to avoid either.

S&2V! You have made my day my (very) old mucker. That was a superb post and have just spent the last 5 minutes laughin my arse off ( as will have anyone who knows Biffa well! ) LOL!

The best thing is, is that you didn't even realise what you had done.

Chadded - if you want cold, but not too pricey - and also something a bit different / cultural... how about Tallinn?

The old city is said to be beautiful... almost as beautiful as the birds. A mate of mine rates Estonian birds as amongst the fittest, in terms of a batting average, that he's ever met. Who am I to argue?

Best of all... there are some great deals to be had on flights to Tallinn with Easyjet. It'll only cost you £55 per person return, if you fly out on Monday 15 Feb and back on Friday 19 Feb - or only £45 per person return if you come back on Thursday 18 Feb. You'll also avoid all the stag parties by going midweek... result.

:)

And you can rent a funky apartment like this to stay in for a few nights at the rate of €77 (sadly, about £70 at current exchange rates) a night - not bad!

Check out the Time Out online guide for more info about nightlife, restaurants etc.

Final thought - and perhaps the clincher... beer is likely to be a lot cheaper in Estonia. Even in one of Tallinn's hipper bars, like Studio, you're looking at £2.50 for a pint and £3.50 for a cocktail. You'll pay a minimum of double that anywhere else in Scandinavia.
