Michael Mifsud

overseas shrimper

Life President⭐🦐
Just found out that Maltese International striker Michael Mifsud is still without a club after leaving Barnsley in the summer.

He is a player I once recommended to somebody at SUFC (he then went on to Lillestrom and then Coventry) and I still feel he could do a job for us. He is fast, has good control and an eye for goal... but, although he has been keeping up his fitness, he lacks match fitness.

Still, i reckon he could play a part in helping us avoid relegation and surely cannot be demanding too much for personal terms on a short contract.

Being unattached, Maltese (EU) and a regular international, he can be signed up outside the window and permits are no problem.

If the club were interested, I could enquire as I know the Maltese assistant coach.

Would take a punt on him. He is quick and knows where the back of the net is. Also Tilly will probably like the fact he can play out wide too.

Would be a very good capture, the guy can score goals thats for sure at Champions level so i dont see any problems in League One.

If only Tilly would take a look on this website now and again...

he can score goals against Manchester United, so he's about our level

He had a decent record at Coventry and was being touted at around 2 million quid IIRC.

I'd say a Valetta to the club, but email or a phone call may be quicker. ;)

He's a quality player, no doubting - so why has no other club taken a punt?

Good question. I've heard the story from a couple of sides and cannot really say too much. All I know is, if he wanted to join us and we wanted him, he'd be an assett and is better than what we have. He'd try his best just to maybe get a good move next season... and so long as he helped us earn some points... good luck to him.

well he's not injured.
The Maltese National coach John Buttigieg says (today)
"I am seriously worried about Michael's situation," Buttigieg said. "He is a vital player for us and it's not a good thing that he is not playing at club level.
"We've been helping Michael Mifsud since the start of the season and I'm still willing to give him my support but I hope he finds a club sooner rather than later. Although his physical condition is good, Mifsud badly lacks match practice and this is essential to play international matches."
Money might be a problem

If I were you mate I'd definitely e-mail the club. Tilly's been looking for another striker anyway, he confirmed that only last week. Very good player Mifsud, would be a big asset to a club like us.

Tilly's comments in today's Echo -
"In an ideal world I would like to bring in another experienced front-man but there aren’t many out there who are available so we need those we do have to step up to the mark.”

I think at the end of his time at Cov, and with the Bristol City move breaking down and the Barnsley loan not being particularly successful there have been questions raised about his commitment/attitude.

Please tell me someone is going to drop Tilly a line about this? Perfect solution long term? Perhaps not, I doubt we could afford to keep him IF he became too successful with us, but given his need to play, and his national teams Manager pretty much saying if you don't play for a club, you won't play for us, I'd imagine he'd be up for it.

Wahes? Well beggars can't be choosers at the end of the day, and I'm sure whatever/whenever :) he got paid at SIFC is a damn sight more than he is getting paid right now!
