Mercury Music Prize Nominations 2009

worth getting? She was on the cover of the last ever Plan B but i never bothered to read the interview.

Fairly predictable i thought, it's been a few years since a non-guitar based band won.

it's on spotify so give it a blast, someone said it's hip-hop with lounge music backing, which is fair enough.

As one who never really reads the music press, I just listen to the bands and if I like them then that is all my criteria is regarding a band. I feel it keeps me away from being influenced by the hype - in either a negative or positive way.

All I can say that I enjoyed the Florence and the Machine set at Reading although I had never heard the stuff before.

La Roux was not bad but her voice is not my cup of tea, and I enjoyed the Horrors on the Friday.

This year has seen The Phantom Band, Future Of The Left, Kong, Micachu, worriedaboutsatan, The XX and SFA all make great British albums which sound very much unlike anything else I've heard.

FOTL embraced melody, I still don't know if I like that. Was a little grown up.

That said, they were the second best gig I've been to thus far (this year), second to Solange Knowles.

I know what you mean, it worried me when they played 'The House that hope built' live. I stood there impatiently hating it and wanting them to rock out again.

But I'm now totally down with it and actually prefer this second LP.
