Armistice Day or the closest Friday to it (fed up with all the Mondays!!!) but don't see any reason to get rid of MayDay - it's a traditional one. If you're going to give up one of the May ones, then make it Whitsun, very few people have a clue what it is anyway and it's rarely even given its correct name. Besides which the spell from August Bank Holiday to Christmas is the longest (and bleakest) spell in the calendar so makes sense to have an extra day in there.
May Day is traditional in the sense that it was celebrated more in the Middle Ages, it was introduced as a holiday in th 70's as Labour Day (struggle of the workers blah, blah). Therefore more of a political statement by the then Labour government IMO.
I agree that Armistice Day would be good, it's celebrated in France, Belgium and Holland.
