Indeed, but I think the time is right for both sides for this move. Lockwood won't be moving directly from "rivals" Orient, he won't be forgoing a testimonial, he will want first team football (something he's not currently getting) and we need a left-back, we need more experience and we need a set piece specialist. Add in he is a local boy, and this move makes so much sense for both sides, I'd probably be more surprised if it doesn't happen than if it happens.

The three potential question marks I see over any move are
(1) is Lockwood past it? - something I think we'd only find out after the event
(2) wages and contract length - I suspect this wouldn't be a big issue having off-loaded Hammell
(3) Mulgrew making his move permanent - which would be subject to Mulgrew making a good enough impression on Tilly, Wolves being willing to sell (and at the right price) and us being able to agree a contract (I suspect he may cost more than Lockwood).

Why would Forest want to potentially strengthen someone they're competing directly with?

I know this one has done the rounds for years but as Yorkshire Blue points out, it does add up quite well at this time. We'll need a permanent replacement for Hammell and Lockwood probably won't want to spend another year on Forest's bench.

Other years when this rumor has come up the problem had been he's testimonial at Orient etc etc. He is pretty local and out of favour at Forest so it's not unrealistic.
