Exactly the point I was trying to make
Even those you mention show the lack of impact - Kane has not yet had a full year in the first team , dear old johnny h is now at ebbsfleet and harry will probably be joining him at that level sooner or later.
All those that have been transferred to Prem clubs amidst much outrage on here are never seen again. If we did get £100k up front for LDV will probably be a good bit of business.
I'm usually firmly in the rose-tinted specs brigade but to me 'Ricky Duncan's conveyor belt' seems to have less of value on it than Brucie's old Generation Game conveyor belt

You can't blame us for the way the game has gone. Nowadays the top clubs have scouts everywhere - anyone who shows even an ounce of ability is hoovered up into their massive youth systems before they've even hit puberty. Most players who 'break through' into the first teams of clubs like us actually started off as a kid at a big club and got lost in the ether - I imagine the same will happen to Della-Verda/Ngoo/Femi whatshisname. It happened to Abalimba too.

They then get released and a lower team snaps them up. Even Moussa came to us from West Ham, Della Verde from Spurs. Once they get a chance to showcase their ability lower down, plenty of them thrive and start to show their potential.

The game has changed, and from what I can see we are playing it to our advantage.

I think if we did get £100k up front for LDV with share of future sell-on then it was probably difficult to turn down. My question though is whether the youth development is producing players who will establish themselves in our first team. Apart from Moussa and Ferdinand not sure there has been many recently.I accept I may be asking an unfair question at this stage and it may be that it takes a long time for a club like ours to start producing first team players

I wonder if JJ is suffering having not really had a close season. He played his last game of the season 4/5 weeks before pre-season started, so not much break?
