Mark Molesley

Aha - it appears that The Imps (and others) had "the pleasure": -

"Bate moved on to join Lincoln City as assistant manager to Colin Murphy, helping the club regain its Football League status at the end of the 1987–88 season. He moved on to rejoin Wilkinson at Leeds United acting as a coach between 1988 and 1992. He moved to Malaysia as Technical Director, a role he held from 1992 to 1995, before joining the coaching staff of Hereford United."
Good grief!

I believe it was Wilkinson who recommended Bate to Jobson .

What's he done in the game since?

We're talking about managers now. Not 7 years ago

I think you're missing the point which #OldBlueLady pointed out, he still got us promoted. It doesn't matter if it was 7 years ago or not.

You could apply your arguement too:

Steve Tilson
Dave Webb
Dave Smith

They all got us promoted but didn't realy do much after.

i will never forget the abuse I got for calling Magic Mark out after his 1st league game in charge of us, it was nice to be proven right eventually in that he should never have been appointed manager in the 1st place. However, watching the process unfold and our dreadful performances that season is something that will live with most of us for a long long time

Even if he ultimately turned out to be a failure for us the idea that you can tell what a manager is like after 1 match is nonsense.

I don't think you was the only one. I got some flack as well.

Watching on Ifollow every game was the worst football I'd ever seen.

Didn't he have a lot of youngsters at the time and weren't we under an embargo so couldn't sign any players?

Brown, always supplied with plenty of funds, did(only just!) get us up via the play-offs,from the lowest division ,but nobody in their right mind, could bracket him with the 3 excellent managers above.

From what I've been told, he's just a really nice guy....too nice. Maybe not cut out for Management. Or will maybe be better as assistant manager, to play the good cop role.

It was indeed - I thought the only plus point was watching on ifollow meant being already home at the final whistle, plus had a decent cuppa at halftime ! The downside was watching away games that you may not usually have attended.

The embargo didn't kick in until about November time, the squad he assembled along with his **** poor coaching staff was all on him, granted Ron didn't help later in the season but pre-season he could sign whoever he wanted, and he got it badly wrong, along with tactics, team selection and just about everything else.

I don't think that was true, we were in an embargo for about a year meaning he was not able to get his number 1 choices. His tactics with what he was allowed to play with were iffy so I am undecided on him. Sadly I think Ron killed his career!

Clearly not as he got another job in NL. Have a mate who has supported Aldershot for 40+ years - it was the worst football they had ever witnessed. As an ex-player he had some credit in the bank but his recruitment, team choices, tactics, subs were beyond belief to them. They also never want to hear about projects or processes again. Ron didn't trash his career, MM and his entourage did that, although he and Harry are responsible for bringing him to our club and everything that has cost us.

I did wonder with Mark whether he was a decent coach or simply the fact that he had so many Bournemouth youngsters on loan at Weymouth that made him successful there.

Bearing in mind he had players like Shaun Hobson on loan from a Premier league side in the southern premier league it's not surprising they were successful but as he climbed the leagues and the playing field levelled out a bit he struggled

I've got no idea if he's a good coach or a bad one , but for whatever reason you care to believe , he worked with probably the weakest squad of players I can think of in recent years.
As I say , no idea on his skill set , but he had very little to work with.
