Mark Molesley

Ron told him that he'd be under an embargo for the first couple of months and that because of our reputation almost all half decent players would be steering clear of us? I'm sure MM knew we had a poor reputation but I suspect he didn't realise how bad it really was until he actually joined.
I think he should have done. The Weymouth chairman, admittedly with a conflict of interests, said publically he had warned MM about taking the job.

Incredible the rose-coloured glasses looking at Molesley's tenure here - he was ****ing terrible.
Can you explain why the big Asian betting syndicates were pro Southend in the second half of last season but, every week without fail under Brown, they have been completely against them? We drifted from 1.5 to 2.1 for the Aldershot game.

That starting price was the same starting price you could have got on Cambridge against us when it was top v bottom in League 2 last season. In a usual top v bottom scenario 5 months into a season, you'd expect the top side to be comfortably odds-on.

The same people that are heavily involved in such betting market moves are the key drivers behind Brentford and Brighton being Premier League teams now.

Our key performance metrics under Molesley had us about 10th post-embargo. We didn't score any goals because our striker options were abysmal (all significantly under-performed their expected goals) and our useless reputation in the game meant we failed to sign any in January. You could perhaps level that blame at Molesley but being crippled by our chairman in both transfer windows suggests that would also be misplaced blame.

Fully agree and it’s good to see him back in the game, let’s see how he does performs without the limitations he was under.

Shame the relegation places aren’t decided by Asian betting syndicates. That useless ****er got us relegated out of the league and you boys are falling over yourselves to defend him.

I think if MM had done his, cough, DD then he should have known to have taken anything Ron told him with a large pinch of salt.
Sure, but I’m cynical of Martin and expected it to be like the embargoes under Tilson, Sturrock, Brown, Powell etc. Not ideal but manageable, maybe a month or two. I didn’t expect us to still be under embargo in December. I expected bad but it was even worse than that.

Are you seriously blaming Brown for our relegation based on one dreadful performance? I know you don’t like him but that’s absurd mate.
He’s not solely responsible but he does share some of the blame. We weren’t down when he took over and in our biggest game since Bury he oversaw the worst performance of the last 30+ years.

But the blame lies primarily with Ron.

Good luck to molesley..... wasn't massive fan of his but same time he was dealt **** hand. Aldershot decent club in national league, I'm sure shots fans are happy with his appointment. Club legend their I think.

The way MM conducted himself here when he was our manager says a lot about his character. Under extreme conditions, he was always positive, fully supportive of his team, and in real terms trying to give a genuine explanation of the team's performance and predicament. Would not dismiss his ability to be successful at this level, whether he was still managing us or with Aldershot. At least there, I would imagine he'll be given the time to show what he can do. Also, their expectations will be a little bit more grounded in reality of where they are currently as a club. Good luck Mark.

So you cannot explain it then?

Not everything boils down to the manager being a useless ****er or otherwise. Us Southend fans, more than any fanbase, should know that by now.

I think people are genuinely forgetting just how poor we were under molesley, weird subs, awful tactics, the laptops, the beanie man, the process the feeling of going a goal down after 20 minutes and knowing that we would never in a million years score 2 goals to win with akinola and goodship pratting about on the wings and acquah way out of his depth, Halford, Mellis, never ever playing for a win, games where the players barely showed up, No real development of players under him, no plan B, and plan A was to defend for 90 minutes.

He was dealt a poor hand but he still wasnt able to inspire enough out of what he had. And it was ****ing miserable for everyone involved.

Wrong time for him perhaps, and he got the shaft, but he still got more wrong then right imo.

I get the feeling that he will do a lot better then with us given the chance and he learns, like he learnt not to try playing it out from the back. So good luck to him. But i cant defend his tenure at all.
