After reading a couple of comments about him being poo for the reserves yesterday I wonder if our most consistent player for the last 3/4 seasons has had his day with us. Not currently in the first team and from the games I seen this season deservedly so (orient goal apart) and the emergence of tommy black as a first teamer and new style midfield with Macca on the left (sort of)I heard he was due to go to sheff wed but it fell through could this be the reason? Or down to form/fitness alone.

i wouldn't be surprised if the sheffield wednesday move did happen (ie we got clarke in exchange). he doesn't look happy (or fit) at the moment

Not that this is an excuse but he's not the only first-teamer to have looked disinterested playing for the stiffs. Apart from Brighton his performances this season have been fine in my opinion.

It's knee-jerk to suggest he should go, he's had dips in form before (he even lost his place to the great Nicky Nicolau at one stage!) and come back stronger. On his day he is unplayable in this division.

by no means would I want him to go he is a fantastic player and certainly not a Knee jerk reaction, just looking for opinions on Marky G not being in team.

I think Gower may struggle to get back into the team at the moment. With this newish system we are playing, we can only play either Black or Gower certainly not both. At the moment Black seems to be in possesion of the shirt with Gower coming off the bench.

At the moment I can't see him forcing his way in. I'm assuming he lost his place in the team because of illness, can anyone confirm?

Before being subbed as part of the re-organisation following Richards dismissal, I didn't think Tommy was pulling up trees at Oldham. However both Foran and Gower certainly didn't look to be pushing for his place in the stiffs yesterday.

I think this problem is fantastic, on one hand we have a player in Mark Gower, who we all know on his day can win us a game. 10 goals last season not a bad return for a midfielder. Then we have Tommy Black someone who creates chances, and is a handful for any defence. Personally i would love Gower to WIN back his place in the team, but i for one think Gower will still be here by the end of next season, Competition for places this season is strong and its great to have IMO. :D

How can it not be a knee jerk ?

He has been one of our most consistent performers for 18 months, scored double figures in a relegation side and yet after a dip in form you ask whether he has had his day with us.

Most players have dips in form but Id be aghast if we sold them as soon as they did.

We know Gower is a decent player and despite rumours of a Wednesday move (which were before his dip in form) I cant see that we should be should belooking to let him go anywhere.

mark gower is a great player - with the ability to finish - and when fit and in from would be my fave to start over and above anyone lese -

Gower ****es on every other midfielder in my book in terms of ability and flair and Tommy Black whilst he has looked ok has not exactly ripped up trees.

I hope and supsect this is just a reminder to him that he is not guaranteed first team football but the reality is in my book no-one can touch him for goals, skill or creativity.

After this few games, it's ridiculous to say he's had his day with us. I'm sure he'll get a run in the team, much like Richie Foran appears to be the current substitute flavour of the month.

To be honest, I'd play Moussa ahead of both Gower and Foran. But not Black.

Mark Gower is currently a victim of being outperformed. He is by far one of the best midfielders we have but at the moment others are performing better than him. This all results in competition and Im sure a player of his calibre knows this more than anyone so he will perform when given his chance to win his place back.

All this competition can only be good, it will result in players battling to keep their place as opposed to last year when it was slim pickings, where places were guaranteed whether they ran their nuts off for 90 mins or had a casual kick about.

As mentioned, Gower is one of the most skillful and creative players in the squad, however he needs to put the effort in [as does Foran by all accounts] for the stiffs if he is to get back playing first team football.

Gower is IMO our best player but he has to earn back his spot. Black is doing OK, not much more IMO and given a bit of time and work on his fitness, goals from the bench etc he'll get that shirt back for me.

Foran should spend more time trying to get into the team and less time trying to spill his beans up Southend ladies mates in my book.

Gower is a great asset to this club. Even if his high standerd has dipped im sure its only a gliche. Give him time, he will be back to his best ive no doubt.

Form comes and goes, class is permenant.

Gower was struggling the other day in the reserves. He didnt play aswell as we know he can. However, at the end of the 90 he could barely break into a run and spent the last couple of mins chatting to the Deano on the bench, I assume whether he was going to come off or not.

No indication that he is injured or ill on the OS but he doesnt seem to be that fit.

As for Mr Foran, well it depends who turns up....the one who is rumoured to be hung like a donkey and plays well or the one who plays like a donkey.

No he should not go, I miss him in the first team, if he went what back up would we have? I dont think Tilson would let him go either, one of the most consistant players and he was best in the championship! He is a gem and we must keep him.
