I really don’t understand why this was planned one day after a play off game? I know we weren’t in the play offs when this was arranged but surely with some forward planning the organisers would’ve realised that the date of this would put some people off!
Because they took advice from Tangled and surmised we wouldn’t make the play offs

Agree not an ideal date with hindsight. However, I guess it couldn't be any later given the need to get the pitch dealt with in a timely manner. Probably doesn't matter when it was arranged it still wouldn't have suited everybody.

Much as this game has suffered more delays and postponements than HS2, surely now is the only right time to push it back.

If it’s about pitch relaying etc, isn’t the obvious choice now to look at the future preseason.

Seems like doubling down on a really unfortunate decision at the moment.

You deffo can't want him to succeed whilst wanting him out of a job
It is not a matter of not wanting him to succeed. Fact is he hasn't hence the need for a change. Getting to the playoffs although very welcome was not considered a realistic prospect when the testimonial was arranged, which is very telling

Not really true is it.

Kev is a legend. We all want him to succeed but we went through a spell where the football was dreadful, results werent great and Kev seemed to lose the plot.

I still wish Kev all the success but I'd still like to see us be far more attacking.

Hopefully we can make some positive signings to make next year a really exciting one.

You can't want someone to succeed whilst not wanting to give them the opportunity to succeed - the 2 are incompatible.

If you care to take note of what both Justin and Tom Lawrence have said at various times this season, Kevin will be at the helm for quite some time. They are both on record as saying some time back that reaching the play offs would be a far greater achievement than last season. We have reached the play offs and therefore Kevin has exceeded COSU's expectations. Keep your expectations realistic, be better for all of us.

It would be counterintuitive for a fan to want Maher to fail in the play offs. Club first and always. Personnel come and go but, fortunately of late, the club rolls on.
I have on many occasions felt that KM is not the manager to take us much further and i believe some of his preferred playing style, particularly in the first half of the season, made the job of getting to the play offs harder than necessary.
The fact remains we are in the playoffs and that is an achievement beyond my expectations and not something I considered as a priority this season. My wish was for a more flowing, attacking system that hinted at ambition and gave the team the chance to succeed. Certainly we are quicker at getting forward now and that's all I could ask for. If being picky I might suggest we could step the pace of attack up yet another notch and reduce the number of passes in a move.
The team and the management have negotiated the season and reached the playoffs. That is great. Winning the playoffs would be an incredible bonus but win or lose them we have achieved enough to warrant a new season for many of the players and the management too. The next, potentially three games, are cup finals and anything can happen. Hopefully we will play expansive, not gung-ho, football because we look far more vulnerable when we are too cagey.
Well done to club, players and MANAGEMENT for this extended season and the prospect/possibility of further success.

This thread is pointless, the game can't be moved.

I agree, the placement of the game in the calendar is a shame, but there was hundreds of different hoops to jump through over months and months of planning.

Ultimately the game is about Kev and it's so nice to see alot of you who can't make the game, still buying tickets and wanting to support the occasion

But the game can't be moved.

This isn’t even close to fact, particularly given all the actual facts you’ve continually chosen to ignore. Quite the opposite… umm… in fact.

You can continue to pretend that:
-The embargoes didn’t happen (they did, fact)
- The spine didn’t get ripped out of the team at the beginning of the season (it did, fact)
- These things didn’t have a significant impact on our story (even though it evidentially affected our ability to sign players, fact)
- The team hasn’t improved in the second half of the season when Kevin was able to bring in players he wanted. (I’m sure someone can show the stats… umm, ‘facts’)
- We didn’t actually achieve the only single realistic stretch-goal we had of getting this team into the playoffs anyway…

I mean… awkward!

If we’re going to throw “facts” about, let’s try to actually consider using some.

The naysayers are pretty ‘fact’ off that’s for sure

Yeah but honestly, I’m sure we all want to get out of this damn league.

It’s more likely they’ve backed themselves so loudly into that corner now, they just can’t see past their own entrenched confirmation bias. It must also be really tough to come out now, after all the pelters and irrational ranting, to give due credit to the folks who’ve performed miracles to actually deliver such a positive end to the absolute mess we inherited at the start of this season.
