OK got 5 mins to myself finally to post something about last night.

Sat with a mate of a similar vintage so it was great to see Flavs, Juppy, Benno, Maher (SR), Barrett, Wilson, Eagle and Gower (there was a lot more of Gower to see 🤣) all roll back the years.

Particularly impressed with Flavs and Benno, but Currie wow what a touch and control he still has.

As many of you know I got quite friendly with Barrett and Wilson back in the day when me and Naps were running the Zone , so it was really nice to have a quick chat with both.

Chris Powell - what a man. What a legend. 💪🦐💙

Can anyone help identify some of the autographs here? Luke the Kit man got this signed for me but I wasn’t in the room the whole time. I think I’ve got Paul McShane top centre, Kevin Watson underneath the “J” logo and Dave Martin (DM) bottom left

Matt Harrold's not on there, the pen missed the left hand sleeve and he signed the desk.

Was an excellent evening.

Line ups and the players that played were a lot different to the programme and what Micky G announced.

Some proper Southend legends playing, however was disappointing the only centre forward that we managed to get was Matt Harold.

Flavs looked like he could still easily play, and Demi still had the legs too. Two exceptional saves from Flavs’ the first reminded me of that save vs Northampton.

Players on the premier league side, like Routledge, Kyle Reid & John O’Shea you could tell played higher. And no way was number 11 Stephen Hunt from Reading, I refuse to believe that. Good player mind. You could tell Mark Wright never played properly either.

Kev’s eldest son looked a good prospect. I know it’s a testimonial and most are playing at half pace, but he demanded the ball and used it well. His first touch was to receive the ball from Barrett with two of the Premier all stars chasing him down, no panic, and popped it off. Very much like our own Maher

Our side had lots of my favourite players from yesteryear.

I believe the line up for us was Flavs; Mark Wright, Adam Barrett, JD, Juppy; Nicky Nicolau, King Kev, Luke Guttridge, Benno, Currie; Harold.

Chris Powell appeared for both sides, two of Kev’s sons played for us, Mark Gower, Jimi Gower, David Lee, Leo Roget, Andy “Eagle” Edwards and Che Wilson came off the bench. May have missed someone. EDIT - I did, Michael Timlin. Thanks @Yorkshire Blue

Managed to have a catch up with Adam Barrett, still looks out for our results etc. and met Chris Powell for the first time, and he really is the nicest man in football.

A really enjoyable evening. King Kev, for EVERYTHING he has done for this club deserved a packed Roots Hall, so it was disappointing to have two stands shut, a handful in the North and a pretty full East. Pretty certain everyone there enjoyed themselves though.

Timlin! But good job remembering the others.

Agree Maher’s eldest looked a real prospect. I assume he’s at W*** H** or an Prem academy. The pros backed off him as he’s only a kid but the way he received the ball and turned and looked you could tell he’s properly coached. Looked so natural on the ball.

Huge fan of Timlin as well 🙈

Definitely a prospect. Would be nice to have another Maher pulling the strings in midfield for us.

Cody was warming up with the legends before the game and he was class! Found a pass every time and had pace and zip on the ball.

Anyway, from a personal point of view - to be involved with Kevs testimonial was a privilege.

I've been involved with the club in some capacity since 1998, 13 years old and the same time Kev first came to the club.

Back then, I wasn't used to a footballer at Southend keeping possession and passing backwards and sideways, he was a young footballer from Spurs looking to establish himself. 13 year old me couldn't understand the way he played. So negative I thought.

What he the continued to do and establish at Sourhend was to control games, League 2 Southend never knew how lucky they were and it was a shame it took until 2005 for it to come to fruition. He has been instrumental to so much and I'm so happy to have seen the strides we made with him.

When we eventually got back into Division One (Championship) he came to life. We played some good football that year and I still believe we were better than our final position. However, the fact remains that Kev was key to how we played. I would love to know his assist record, I can remember numerous times a clip over the top for Freddy or Wayne to run on to, a tackle to then play and keep possession.

27 years later we have an absolute legend of Southend United. Someone that really has gone above and beyond. There's so many things that have never been put in the spotlight when times were tough but low and behold, Kev has still been there. John Still said some really touching words last night and Tom before hand also said some great things on behalf of COSU.

He has served us so well - he really is a Southend United legend.
