....according to the Oxford website, tonight was out lowest attendance in 95 years???

"...... then farce as Morgan missed two further open goals in the last five minutes, much to the dismay of the lowest home crowd Southend have had in 95 years. A special mention for the away fans who were still singing at the final whistle and give their team such great backing wherever their travels take them."

well I have certainly been to games in the last 30 years which have been lower at the Hall. Presume one of the lowest FA Cup ties though as in the old days they would be bigger crowds than league matches

That will teach Ron Martin a lesson for charging a ticket price of £20. If he set the Ticket price to £15 or less, the crowd agasint Dagger will be 8'500 or more - if it £20 or more, I can see a crowd of 5000 or under.

Iam sure the players rather have crowds of 7000-8000 Southenders cheering them on rather than a 4000 or less.

Top post. Not sure if we'd get over 8,500 but it would certainly be a lot better than tonight's attendance which was absolutely woeful if we're honest, albeit for a replay on a bitterly cold Tuesday evening. They have to be more sensible with the ticketing for the Daggers game though otherwise it will be embarrassing.

Out of interest, what do people think the attendence would have been if tickets had been, say, £15?

If I'm honest and with hindsight, probably not all that much higher on this occasion. Maybe another thousand or so. It was bloody cold tonight and despite there being apparently 3,000 sold, only 2,700 actually turned up in the event.

That depends on whether the extra 3 or 4 thousand you are referring to are actual 'fans' that get behind the team or the type that moan, groan and abuse players for not running out of the tunnel the way they'd like them to.

Unfortunately, we see to be making up the numbers with the latter.

we were talking about this prior to kick off last night.

we thought it was going to be contender for the lowest fa cup crowd at the hall ever. we couldn't remember the col ewe crowd in 84 but thought that was around the 2,900 mark.

That old chesnut eh?
I think most could be excused from any dirth on here due to the greedy pricing policy. As for for the 'moaning groaning' type, I think you'll find that the majority of them are blind followers of the team and were no doubt in attendance last night. Its just that the game was so one sided the responses to the 'banjo swinging' from maccyD & Morgan took on a less frustrated and more humourous style. You can be sure though, that if this was a league match and we were 1-0 down vitriol would have been in full flow!

It is refering to the FA Cup only (The Echo this morning quoted it also).

I was disappointed by the attendence last night, I know it was the 3rd game in 7 days but this arguement its too expensive for everyone is a little overplayed, we have 4500 season ticket holders, they have already paid for the Huddersfield & Swindon games. If I knock off 200-300 Oxford fans it means 2,000 season ticket holders didnt want to come to the match off course they have there rights or reasons as to why they didnt come and thats something the club maybe needs to look at

If it were the same price as the previous game, ie £15 for adult and £1 for kids then we would have gone (my manflu might have changed my mind at the last minute but I would have bought my tickets by then so may well have soldiered on).

the lowest fa cup tie I can remember is swindon in the early 80s at home, during the moore era, which if memory serves me right was 2,582.

but of course who can forget the legendary 657 v cambridge utd at home
in the ldv
5-4!!!! danny oshea mom

it was shown that southend utd were the culprits here, and therefore they deserve all the stick they get, one wonders what a crowd of this size would look like in the new stadium, can you the empty seats

Good point, although I suspect there would be more in the first season or two until the novelty wears off. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to get a song or two going, given what it's like at Roots Hall at times anyway?!

Lowest attendance for an FA Cup game in 95 years is the stat.

We had 1,700 for an LDV game a few years back.............
1100 or so for the 10-1 Aldershot game (which even I attended!)

Id say no more than 4,500.

4,500 x £15 = £67,500

or

3,000 x £20 = £60,000.

Obviously a huge mistake on the clubs part and as I assume the South stand was open when it was closed for the "smaller" LDV game vs Daggers I assume the club actually thought we would be getting a decent crowd last night.

Hopefully they will take this on board for the next round which coming just after Christmas when everyone is completely skint....

having been down at fossett farms shopping at bq

i cant help thinking how open it is all the way down to the crouch

depending on what end if its gets built we get given, I can imagine it would be bloody purgatory sitting in the stadium, in a crowd that small

these new stadiums are souless, think back to last season, places like coventry leicester etc, even with 20,000 they apepar dead
