Lots of good music around at the mo...

Velvet Revolver are a fantastic band. Album is 10/10, but underated over here. Our music system is sh*te. You get sh*te boy bands with 1 hit and the album does well, but you get a quality up and coming band like these with a brilliant album and they do sh*t in charts

I have to say that Velvet Revolver are a great band. Maybe this view is tainted by the fact that my music tastes were totally blown away when in 1987 i went to an old club in London called The Marquee and saw a fairly unknown band to these shores, whose lead and bass guitarists are now part of the Velvet Revolver lineup.

Good to see the boys back producing the stuff they are capable of.

Partly inspired by this thread I had a bit of a downloading frenzy over the weekend to catch up on some of the recent releases to see what's worth buying. For what it's worth, here are my thoughts -

Razzorlight - I quite liked the single that's been played to death on radio and music TV lately. The rest of the album though is a bit of a disappointment, plodding along with quite frankly dull and un-inspiring 'Adult-Rock' that's destined to be a hit with the Jools Holland watching 30-somethings who kid themselves that they are still cool.

Kasabian - Is it still 1989? Am I still wearing t-shirts and jeans so baggy that I get blown off my feet walking to college down the wind tunnel that is Victoria Avenue? Well no (shame really, as Southend United would be about to enter the greatest period in their history) but this album certainly tries hard to convince you that it is. All the reviews are right, if you love The Roses, The Mondays and The Scream then you'll like this - and I do! Not ground breaking but a good rock'n'roll record which swaggers along nicely.

The Prodigy - Not really had the chance to listen to this properly but first skim through would suggest that it's pretty much what I expected. Dirty beats, messy productions and needs to be played very loud to be appreciated.

Joss Stone - New album of new songs (as opposed to old soul classics and forgotten gems) from the young girl with an amazing voice. To be honest Joss could sing the phone book and I'd listen to it as her voice just sends shivers down my spine. I prefer Soul Sessions but maybe when I've heard the new songs as much as I've played the first album (which I have played to death) then they may grow on me more. A decent stab at what she believes is her first 'proper' record, she will surely have a long career in front of her to improve on it.
