London Museums or attractions.

Obviously the British Museum is a great museum to see, i went last year and it was a hard day on the feet.
Last week i went to the Tate Modern, it was better than i thought it would be to be honest but i would recommend hiring the audio sets for £3.50 each to explain some of the obscure stuff like cubist paintings eg: picasso.
I also went last week to the National Gallery but i felt that it was too full of religous paintings for my liking.
A couple of years ago i went to The Cabinet War Rooms and i felt that was brilliant but it was about £16 to get in.
I have also heard the British Library is worth a visit and it has a good area for kids to do things.

So, time to visit galleries, but no time to tally up the 2010 deadpool result eh?

That would get my vote. The National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory are well worth a visit.

Another vote for the Royal Observatory, particularly if you've read Longitude. They had an original John Harrison timepiece last time I visited, plus it is obviously home to the meridian line. Good views over London as well.

Also Dave, your missus will like it as Greenwich Park is where the equestrian events are being held at the Olympics. Suspect they've packed it all away now, but last time I ran past (about a fortnight ago) they had it all set up for a practice event.

From what I remember of being dragged round the V&A it's full of dresses. The British Museum though is fantastic.

you asked for not the obvious . The operating rooms , 5 mins walk from London bridge tube.
Its a hospital operating room from the early 1800's. get the guy there to get his tools out and talk through an amputation without anaesthetic. total vist 60-90 mins. We took our kids (11 and 13 at the time) and everyone loved it. Was better than most of the big 'named' attractions. Partially down to the guy who runs it bringing everything to life and being happy to answer questions
When we went there was only ourselves and another couple so it felt like our own private tour.

The guy that runs this was interviewed on the Robert Elms show ages ago on BBC London and it sounded like an excellent place. Not sure my own kids (both young girls) would appreciate it though.

Whats on show is not scary from memory , its when you see the tools and he describes how they use them and where they stick them , and the survival rates. Makes you realise how lucky we are today. Depenadant on how your girls are he will ask one of them to lie on the operating table and he then gets out the surgeons tool kit and runs through a mock amputation. Not sure if that is good/bad for your girls

No good would come out of that, believe me.

Cheers all,

The Mrs managed to try and book a restraunt that isnt open on Wednesdays so were now going to Tower of London, Meet Dad at the Weatherspoons Rudi suggested, Lunch, British Museum and if we have time then perating Rooms.

Thanks

Lol, similar except not a birthday and going up for a hospital appointment at Guys and then having a mooch after! Covent Garden is obviously a great place to go and while away some time, the Transport Museum is there too and very easily managed inside a few hours. The National Gallery and Trafalgar Square aren't far away and if you like that sort of thing, then the National is great as you'll recognise quite a lot of their more famous paintings. Or alternatively, head over to the Tower and stroll around St Katherine's, usually some interesting boats in the docks and some nice bars and shops there.
this is going to be nearly a sz gangbang, i'm having a butchers around bond st tomorrow for some more crap that i dont need and cant afford

The British museum is huge, but make sure you visit the ancient greek section. Seeing an entire temple in a museum is pretty impressive.

Let me assure you Dave, you won't finish the British Museum if you are doing all that before Lunch. The British Museum is an all dayer in itself! If you do do what you are saying, then i agree do the Ancient Greek Section including The Elgin Marbles and The Ancient Egyptian Section with Mummies, hieroglyphs and Sarcophagus's.
