Quote[/b] (Joolz @ Nov. 03 2006,14:49)]... I especially dislike the fact that some of these fans have acquired tickets for the game at the expense of some very genuine and lloyal Southend fans. If they are so desparate to see them play, why don't they go to Old Trafford instead, where at least they will see the first team?
Whilst I understand that point, if these genuine and loyal fans really wanted to attend the game, why didn't they queue up at 4am in the morning to get themselves a ticket? These Manchester United fans were desperate to see their team play (they might not get the chance to do so otherwise) so they suffered numbing cold on Tuesday night and fully deserve a ticket. As does Aberdeen Shrimper, who drove down from the Highlands because he desperately wanted to go, which kinda puts a shuddering halt to all those complaints from exiles, eh?
I don't know, any number or reasons. Work commitments, not wanting to leave young kids alone in the house at night, sleep! Just because someone is a genuine and lloyal fan, it doesn't make them a nutter!

Quote[/b] (Spaceman Spiff @ Nov. 03 2006,14:53)]Here's some free speech for you Mike - you're turning into a boring, bittor person who clearly has nothing else whatsoever to do with his day than find 'sport' on here.

Last time anyone checked every forum on the internet had moderators that are freely able to decide what is appropriate content and take action as they see fit. If you want endless fights - shrimpers.net is for you - feel free to use it.

You're right it would never have happened 'in your day' because you used to be interesting and have other things in your life.

You grow up - or bore off!

I think the power of the moderator has gone slightly to your head and this forum has become poorer for it. Whatever happened to Matt's passionate cry that he'll defend the right for freedom of speech? Obviously doesn't apply to some people, does it? I think the other moderators need to take a close look at practices because in recent months they have been become more and more restrictive ...

I'd also add that moderation is surely for topics that have degenerated into personal abuse or have gone totally of topic.

The one in question hadn't. It may have been boring for some people, but surely they could have just ignored it?

And lets be perfectly honest about it, who would have thought you would have missed out if you hadn't been there by 8.30ish. I certainly didn't.

Sadly, I can only see this particular thread heading south.

I suggest we all take a breather.

The Voltaire-inspired maxim of free speech only extends, as John Stuart Mill would have it, to where it begins to impinge on others boundaries. Where freedoms are not exercised responsibly, history teaches us that those freedoms end up being curtailed.
