Live 8

Thought all of it was $%&*, and had no interest in it at all, except for Velvet Revolver, The Who and Pink Floyd. All 3 were fantastic.

The crowd were awful. ie You get a legend like Slash come out with VR, play a brilliant set and the crowd do nothing. Yet you get someone like Beckham come out and the place goes mad

Then you get Jo Whiley and that Fern Cotton at the end. "What was your highlight for the day"

"Razorlight and Robbie"

Then I guess you missed Fern raving about VR and actually said her biggest thrill of the day was interviewing Slash, she felt her knees go when he spoke to her.

Velvet Revolver were ace - and to be fair as it seemed nobody in the crowd knew who they were, I thought they went over really well.

Just finished watching the last bits of it now. Thought for such a thrown together event, they pulled it off superbly.

I dont think anyone (on here, or anywhere) should come on and start saying how cack it was or how the crowd werent into it etc - it was done for a specific reason and whatever your personal feeling on the subject, I think it is commendable that the people involved care so passionately about trying to bring some happiness to less fortunate people than us.

The cynics might suggest that some of those same people care just as passionately about their album sales in the next few weeks ...

Even so, good luck to them. They gave their time up Saturday so deserve to have a little reward.

There didnt seem to be any ego's from the bands - even late on when bands were getting cut - The Killers and Snow Patrol in particular must have had songs pulled, but still did an excellent job.

Only Joss Stone spoiled it by 'playing a new song from my new album' where the other performers were happy to stick to greatest hits.

Suggest you read some back stage reports. Free bar, egos galore! Good PR for most. I also read that the organisers were fined £350,000 for every hour it finished after 9:30. Given they finished at 12 (3 hours later than planned) it looks like Westminster Council are going to be £875K richer as a result. Now whilst I couldn't really give a monkeys about the whole thing I think that takes the $%&* somewhat.

i hope its the artists that have to pay the extra for running over?? I cant understand why Mariah Carey was on the bill. Shes demontrated quite clearly over the years that seh cares for no1 but herself..... and then went on to complain that Madonna had a bigger dressing room than her (which, lets face it, Mage is a true legend, Mriah is just a stroppy diva)

Me too.

I thought the singer was one of the biggest *u**s I have ever seen in my life.

I don't think she spoilt it at all. She wasn't the only one to do this - I think Scissor Sisters played a new song as well.

What's wrong with playing new stuff - I think a lot of people wanted a remake of Live Aid rather than hearing things from artists today.

The majority of people were there to see "Pink Floyd" ,"The Who" etc etc (all of which are great) but to me I just think the older generation amongst us where hoping for a remake of years ago.

On another note - talking of oldies - did anyone see Brian Wilson in the US concert? Oh dear!!! Looked like he had been wheeled out from his home, stuck in front of a crowd and told to sit in his seat and bounce up and down...EMBARRASING!

I watched the lot.
Though the Stereophonics were excellent as I don't really play their stuff.
Robbie williams, sare I say it, was very good/.
I would have loved to have seen Green Day on the London bill.
Wonedr if Pete Townsend was lurking near to peaches and trixie Geldof in the hospitality tent!

the crowd in the golden circle were zombies.

Mike, I have some Snoop Dogg CDs at home, I'll post them over.
Ice T couldn't make it. He was getting ready for another gig at the Pink Toothbrush....

I went to the Greyhound Derby instead, so barely saw any of it.

Liked what Caitlin Moran said in The Times today - she compared Elton John and Pete Doherty (by all accounts murdering Children of the Revolution) to Les Dawson and Sid the Snot

Couldn't agree more.

To me they are a 3rd rate T-Rex tribute band.

I was very sceptical about her appearance and she seemed to be career building as much as anything. That said, contrary to reports of what she's normally like, she did seem to be restrained. The bit with the kids was slightly cringe-worthy. I don't know if it was just me but if anyone else had pulled the same thing off, I'd have taken it virtually at face value!

I have aways heard that the "golden rule" about playing to an audience who are not typically your fans, is stick to what you are well known for.

As for charity and Benefit gigs it it "give them what they want"

The Scissor Sisters, imho, went down like a lead baloon, there seemed little movement in the crowd.

A bit like the Kaiser Chiefs (who sounded great) in Philly. If you looked closely you could almost see them going straight over the sad yanks heads
