Lionel Messi vs Arsenal

EastStandBlue

Life President
Barca looked nervous and had a shakey start... Until Messi popped up with three delightful finishes in 20 minutes to seemingly settle the tie.

Unbelievable talent.

Messi was sublime tonight, and is rightly the best player in the World.

People who where mentioning Rooney as being the best in the world a few weeks ago need to watch Messi's performance. Rooney is a long, long way off that standard. Even Ronaldo in 2nd is a way off Messi.

Rooney and Messi are poles apart, not in class, but in style of play. If you dunked Messi in the Premier League tomorrow I doubt he'd be as effective as he is in La Liga... Rooney is a player you have to see live to fully understand just how talented he is: He sees things no other player on the pitch can and, when on form, he's six or seven steps ahead of the opposition.

Messi is currently the best in the World, but Rooney isn't far off him.

I've seen Rooney play live, I know how talented the boy is, but Messi is streets ahead.

I love Rooney's 100% effort in everything he does be it with or without the ball and he is by far and away the best player England have got at present, but I'd rather have Messi in my side.

Messi is incredible. His touch, his vision, the way he glides with the ball, the way he beats players, the composure he showed infront of goal. If Rooney showed the same composure last week against Munich, United would have been 2 possibly even 3 nil up and game over.

Don't get me wrong, Rooney is top draw and in the form of his life, but Messi is still ahead of him by a distance in my eyes.

ive seen rooney live 12 times live this season and ive seen messi live 3 times. messi is more skillfull thats about it, rooney does so so much more for the team for example, tracking back, making tackles, running backward and foward, assisting and scoring goals. messi has undoubtable talent is the worlds best player but rooney is'nt streets ahead like wonderboy suggests

Messi and Rooney different players. Also Messi plays with Xavi and Iniesta behind him, Rooney has Fletcher and Carrick. Both world class and both will go down as 2 of the best players of all time. Who would I have in my team? Messi by a whisker.

He is a modern day Maradonna. The kid is class above the rest, I have seen Ronaldo play on plenty of occasions and I watch alot of Spannish football. Ronaldo is nowhere near as good as Messi. It's just a shame a player like that is at Barcelona, can't ever see him leaving them for anyone else. Won't join an English side anytime in his career in my opinon.

I never suggested Rooney was streets ahead...

When he wins the World Cup virtually single handed, then he's a modern day Maradona. Has he? No. There's no doubt that Messi can play, but I'd take Rooney for his work rate and Ronaldo for his physicality and aerial prowess over the mulleted one every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Well we haven't got long till the world cup now and I think that will prove the argument of who truely is the best player in the world between Rooney, Messi and Ronaldo.

I'm sure all of them will perform well, but I only see one of those players having a chance at getting a winner's medal, and that's Mr Rooney. (Although with the loss of Lord Becks, my pick for the cup has been changed to Germany.)
