Line Up for next season - including rumours!

Ok, if the rumours are true, then next seasons side could be shaping up quite nicely...

Flavs *
Francis
Barrett
Clarke *
Granville *
JCR *
Maher
McCormack
Gower *
Byfield *
Foran

Though the * players are ones that may/maynot be here!

If we could get Byfield and another striker to replace Foran, then I am starting to be a bit more optimistic!

Just seeing Foran's name terrifies me.

I think a pre season in England and Foran will be uselfull in League 1, He is obviously lacking fitness. I just hope he doesnt actually lack the ability to play football.

However i think we should give him a chance

I think a clean slate for everybody next season is in order.

This season draws to a close and yes, I blame Tilson for our relegation due to poor buys/small squad, but I am willing to give everyone a chance again come August.

That means Foran, Harrold, BadBuy, Paynter, Hooper, whoever - League 1 is a massive difference to the Championship and I'm hoping that the players in the squad will step up to the challenge and give us something to cheer again next May.

Many people on here rubbished Byfield during the last close season, when his name was brough up but personally I'd been quite impressed with him.

At the end we had Bradbury, Harrold & Foran to chose from with Billy Gruff nowhere to be seen. I know who I'd rather have had! And before people say it, yes his 15 goals were at L1 level but are any of the ones we've got capable of that? Not IMHO and I seriously think he could have done more than them in the CCC.

yeah i think that is really important.... we need to rid ourselves of the championship hangover.. i'm looking towards a good pre-season and players like lawson, hooper, harrold and francis to really seize the initiative... we need to make sure that we get a good start next season and to forget this season and get straight back to winning ways! we can play a big part in giving everyone a 2nd chance and remember that the crowd can really affect a player... i would hate to have been billy paynter when he came to us, hearing that he was sick before running out and the receptions he used to get when he came on or went off made me feel so ashamed.

lets get right behind everyone who pulls on the blue shirt and get the blues back up (hopefully though the playoffs as i want to go to wembley!)

Slightly harsh, but yes the squad size was a root cause. It will always be a problem trying attract someone to Southend to play in the championship for league two wages.
As much as we love Southend it's only journeymen who'll come here, those on the up or those on the way down i,e. stepping stoners.

Until we get a new stadium and better finances and then establish ourselves I can't see things changing in the next couple of years with regards to getting decent players in the transfer windows. Certainly not names

Im not convinced by Foran. He needs a big kick up the ****. His finishing has been truly awful, if we create enough chances then he can get away with it but in a tight game you need someone who can take maybe just one chance that comes their way.

I haven't seen enough of Foran to truely comment on ability/potential but one thing I will throw in to the debate is what I saw after the Sunderland drubbing. I think Foran got on for about 5 minutes when the game was already lost. After the game the subs came on to the pitch to have a bit of a run around as they hadn't played much or at all. Most were going through the motions but Foran stayed out for a good 20 minutes, 15 minutes longer thatn anyone else, sprinting and jogging and doing a really good wrok out.

Shows at least he's trying. I think he can cope with league one. And given a pre season with a new strike partner will hopefully come good.

Whoever we get for next season I hope they are here early so we can have a useful pre season rather than waiting until the last minute for new blood.

Getting new blood in early will help create a new atmos at the club and banish any relegation hangover.

Apart from JCR and Francis that side is lacking some serious pace. I suggest we need another pacy striker in the gray mould and a fast CB

That was said about Paynter after a few games the crowd got on his back and in the end we farmed him out on loan.

And then surprise suprise after he starts scoring goals (not that many) some people want him back to help the team stay up

Our so called supporters drove him away shot his confidence he wanted a fresh start - and he got it on loan to bradford destination L 2 next season
they could take him off our hands but very unlikely speaking with a bradford fan money is vert tight with them at the moment

unless somebody comes in for Paynter & Foran which is very unlikely as they both have 2 years to run on there contract - and we will want to get some of money back

We should support the players we have got not keep slagging them off otherwise other players will get wise of this and tell there agents im not signing for Southend there fans are never satisfied

Over the close season i sincerly hope Tilly/Brush secure the targets they are looking for instead of leaving till last yew weeks before kick off

I posted my doubts about him before we signed him in January, a total waste of £200k :fury:

That sounds oak by me. If we get in early with our signings it maple some extra season-ticket holders in.

Willow it though. I have been thinking on these lines while flicking my Ash..I feel we have to cut the dead wood away. Maybe Branch out and use the young Saplings we have in the youth team.

Not sure it's been mentioned elsewhere, but one possible signing, a slightly older version of Cureton, is Kevin Gallen. He has just been released by QPR & has always scored goals & providing he is fit, might do a job in Div 1.

A short term option, but one that might we worth a punt. Also, Lomas has been released by QPR. I know he's old & ginger, but might be OK as a squad player to cover for the numerous suspension that Macca & Maher will clock up!
