Let's get off Harry's back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

President
It seems that I am not alone in finding all this perpetual slagging off of Matt Harrold , both on here and at the Hall , rather offensive - (particularly the personal remarks) and totally counter-productive.

So , as he looks like remaining a key component of our squad I thought it would be appropriate for those that agree to join in a thread highlighting the contribution he makes to the team and his attributes .

I'll start ......

Matt Harrold has scored more goals at Roots Hall than Rooney and Ronaldo betwen them. :p

Personal insults are wrong indeed!

But still he has been shocking for Southend!!

That is a personal opinion that most of those who's opinions I value disagree with. But there are any number of "slag Harry off" threads. This is specifically to find positive things to say about him, so why come on here at post #4 and again, slag him off?

Turned the game when he came on as sub against Norwich last year and help create one of the best nights and best atmospheres at RH for a long time

I was commenting on how i agree with you that the personal insults are wrong! and also telling you that this would be something to do with the fact his performance has been shocking and I think you will find most will agree!

He don't lack heart thought! there is a positive!

if harrold could score he would be quality, he does most things right. the nock down for hammels goal was superb but theres no point having a striker who cant score. against cheltnham i did feel sorry for him at the start of the game when nearly the whole ground stood up and had a go at him, i think he played a bad ball. but it cant do a lot for his confidence.

strikers are all about confidence and if youve got a few thousand people hurling abuse at you every time you put a foot wrong then it aint exactly gonna help, i personally think he aint the best but he does put effort in and plays some good balls, other team members dont get abuse everytime they do something wrong, seems like people like to try and single harrold out,

even when he scored the pen against rochdale everyone starts singing 2-1... even harrold scored, must have made him felt great!

To be fair ACU, there are plenty of 'Slag Matt Harrold Off' Thread's where people are defending him, so a little balance is fine by me :)

He's not my favourite player but he doesn't deserve the stick he gets from the crowd at every home game.

Indeed, when i aired this view on Saturday some old bloke next to me actually offered me out and it resulted in me having to move in the second half as apparently his 'boys' were going to get me after the game.

What cracking blokes. All for sticking up for your own player.

Tools.

And with "supporters" like that, who needs enemies?

Where were these clowns sitting James? Totally unacceptable behavior.

They're clearly not true supporters.

Matt's flick for Gower's equaliser at Coventry was perfection.
Remember it well and i'm not his dad either.

Thing is, if Harrold wasnt getting the stick, then another player would be. Leon had a dream start with us. If his goals dry up I can imagine the lazy, slow, overweight stick heading his way and whilst there are some grounds to the “I’ve paid to get in so I will shout what I like” theory, it can’t be helpful to the team and surely helping the team is what all supporters should be interested in.

In my opinion, Harrold just isn't liked by some people on here, and Roots Hall. He could score 20 goals this season, win the FA Cup with an overhead kick for us, and win England Euro 2008 (If we qualify) but some people still wouldn't like him.

On saturday, when Harrold tried to stand the ball up to the back post (the right thing to do) and it went out of play the abuse he got was horrific. I defended him in East Reds but not many people would listen. 2nd half, we are on the counter and MacDonald does exactly the same thing, sticks it behind the goal, but the people around me rather than slag off MacDonald like they did with Harrold, they slagged off Tilson because MacDonald "wouldn't have done that if he started".

There lies the big difference. Two strikers do exactly the same thing, one is a "****ing giner ****, I hope he dies" and the other "Wouldn't have done that if he started". It was disgusting.

Some "fans" need to take a long hard look at themselves when they wish death on a Southend United player. I was disgusted and defended Harrold to the end, but no one would listen.

Possibly your best post on here ever mate!
