Leics v Essex

Grayson

Life President⭐🦐
So we won the toss and chose to bowl, taking the top 3 very cheaply. Leics are 37-3, but we need seaming conditions to stay as without damage our attack lacks depth.

Who is this Mickleburgh playing for us? He's in the batting line-up with Chopra and Westley. Another young side for us.

Ironic really that the day after England thrash the Saaffers, another Saaffer team (Leicestershire with their Kolpakkers, Green and Gold colours et all) are skittled out for next to nothing.

Chopra becomes the second player all match to reach double figures (off 46 balls) only to get out next ball.

I think the pitch inspector will be in attendance tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how much of it is put down to both sides having ridiculously young teams. Other than the ancient Gallian (37 years old), the next oldest in the Essex top order is Pettini who was only 25 the other day. Mickelburgh is 18, Westley 19, Chopra 21.

For Leics Boyce was 23 this month, Smith 19, Cobb 18, Taylor 18 although Nixon is 37 and Ackerman 35.

good bowling today by Essex and i think we look like getting a lot higher total than what they got so we should win but it doesn't really matter anymore because we can't really get promotion

I think promotion went out the window after losing to Worcs last week. I thought that Mickleburgh was also a keeper.

Jaik Mickleburgh is a young all-rounder who has performed consistently well for Essex's second XI this season after signing a two-year Academy deal last winter. He has previously appeared in Minor Counties cricket for Norfolk. He is predominantly a batsman, but he bowls useful medium pace as well, I believe, making a century and six 50s in all cricket this season so far. This is his 'official' first-team debut, having appeared in the Twenty20 Floodlit Cup at the tail-end of last season.

Thanks for that, who is the young keeper that is on the books? I think he may have played for the England U19's.

Adam Wheater - he made his first-class debut against Cambridge UCCE in April and stepped in for Fozzie when he was injured earlier in the season for his Championship debut at Derby. He was in the England Under-19 squad at the end of last season, but I don't think he has played an international for them yet. He's also highly-rated, and has made three 50s in his last four second XI matches.

In fact, the Second XI are in the final of the one-day Second XI Trophy at Chelmsford on Monday, so if anyone doesn't happen to be at work that day, then it is a good chance to see some of the stars of the future.

Thanks. I had an idea that he had already made his Championship debut, but his name escaped me.

As ever Essex have some promising kids, I would like to see the youth supplemented by a good class experienced batsman next season.
