what a shame he wasn't in the same side as Lou Costello, who although a defender, also was tried up front as a desperate measure during a couple of seasons in the early sixties.
Petter Belsvik. Who remembers him then?
I certainly do! .. Looked like the lead singer out of AHA! ..Vaguely remember him scoring with a header in a home game at the South Stand end. Might have been against Stoke City, IIRC.

Can’t think why you pick on Costello, when you obviously don’t remember him at all well.He was signed at the end of 56-57 as a young CENTRE-FORWARD from Aldershot and scored quite a few goals throughout 57-58 in the reserves, but he was never going to be good enough to be preferred to Roy Hollis and subsequently used his powerful physique at RB or in the half-back line.what a shame he wasn't in the same side as Lou Costello, who although a defender, also was tried up front as a desperate measure during a couple of seasons in the early sixties.
Correct. I think it put us 1-0 up (or maybe 2-1). Anyway, I think we lost 4-2 from memory.
I remember him very well as the object of much mirth and derision whatever position he played. His lumbering presence was even less effective up front but he was a trier, I'll give him that. Can’t think why you pick on Costello, when you obviously don’t remember him at all well.He was signed at the end of 56-57 as a young CENTRE-FORWARD from Aldershot and scored quite a few goals throughout 57-58 in the reserves, but he was never going to be good enough to be preferred to Roy Hollis and subsequently used his powerful physique at RB or in the half-back line.
As an aside, Lou scored the best own goal I ever saw, almost deliberate I thought at the time, it happened after words had been exchanged with Harry Threadgold. Priceless. I thought Lou was a great servant and a steady player in any position. I never saw him as a laughing stock, although the o.g. was pretty hilarious.
I saw Richard Young miss an open goal from about three yards. There wasn't a defender near him either, the ball rolled off his foot and went wide. He really was ****.
was this the one at Col. U or was that another miss?
It was a home game, but I can't remember who against.
Describe own goal please.
It could possibly have been against Coventry at Roots Hall on 11 May 1963. Lou was playing and Coventry's goal was an own goal. Peter Goy was in goal. My recollection is of Lou hammering a 25+ yard back pass towards Goy from the right back positon towards the North Bank and it flying into the net. It's along time ago though.
That's the one!! Shows how the old memory fails over time, yes it was Peter Goy and it was some o.g.! Well researched old chap, very impressive. It could possibly have been against Coventry at Roots Hall on 11 May 1963. Lou was playing and Coventry's goal was an own goal. Peter Goy was in goal.
