league table

I was just shocked when I looked at the table at how different it looks, 3 points from the next place and then 9 points from 20th. It looks quite a bit healthier. we might have only pulled off a couple of points in the last two games but we have made ground on the teams around us even if we havent taken maximum points since southampton.
We have been lucky with results what with drawing when other teams around us are loosing.
Feel pretty confident that we can now build on two good performances and get a win at home - what a good start to the new year that would be

I have always felt if we can go into January somewhere around 6 points from safety we are in with a chance, and it's 8 points at the moment. There are some very bad teams still to come to Roots Hall and if we beat most of those we will be somewhere around 21st place near the end of the season.

Losing to 'big' teams is not the end of the world, but we must beat teams like Leeds,QPR,Leicester,Barnsley to stand a chance.

So are you saying that if we don't win on Monday we simply can't stay up?

Of course we can. So long as it's still possible we have to believe we can do it. If one of the players came out and said that you would lynch them, so let's show the same level of commitment/optimism you would expect of them.

Tony do you deliberately miss the point of most peple's posts or are you just thick. I'm fast coming to that conclusion I'm afraid.

We've got a few six pointers coming up, which should help us. Must win: QPR,Leeds, Hull, Barnsley,Luton and possibly Crystal Palace.

HOw long till we all stop saying "well if we win our next game and get on a run then we are in with a chance". I for one have been saying this for the last month!

BUT if we win our next home game and then go on a run we could still stay up..........untill mathmatically impossible!

We need a minimum of 32 points to stay up.

So 11 wins needed. (9 wins 5 draws etc etc)

Anyone like to tell me where they will come from?

Derby H
QPR H
Sunderland A?
Crystal Palace H
Sheffield Wednesday A
Leicester H
Burnley H?
Leeds H
Hull A
Col******r H
Barnsley H
Luton H

Are all their for the taking!

Win your home games and you will stay up, but the team must make the home games as intimidating as possible.
This means getting the players up to full speed straight from the kick off, look at us our players are often out on the pitch 45 minutes before kick off. The number of games where we start off like a bomb and score an early goal is pretty high.
This lifts the players and the crowd and puts many of those prima donna ex prem players off their game. Remember when I talk about the team this includes the players and the fans.
Get behind your boys especially at home and you can still stay up.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I'm deleting all the fixture lists posted above. You have to possess a licence to post fixture lists like this and we don't have one. I'm sure we won't get caught, but better to play safe.

Rubbish, I know...

Why, is Monday a 20 point roll-over or something?

This is just about our toughest remaining home match and should be recognised as such. West Brom are more than capable of doing what Birmingham and Cardiff have done to us and a result against them would be a Herculean effort.

Whether we get win, draw or lose against West Brom it isn't going to decide our season. We'll stay up or go down depending on our results at home against the likes of QPR, Col******r, Luton, Barnsley, Crystal Palace and Leeds. We're also going to need to pick up a win or two on the road.

Nothing will be decided against the Baggies but a win would be massive for our season. It would put us above someone for the first time since we lost to the Hull/Leeds combo and would mean we are chasing safety rather than everyone (all dependant on results of course).

C&P makes a very good point although it has to be said that our defence has let us down badly even when we have scored early. Wooly was sayign a similar thing yesterday about the number of times Col U have scored early. The only plus side of Col U's form is that I've made a decent amount 'emotionally laying' them!
