league one Whipping boys!

i don't think it's a 'money talks' issue though. JS was pretty much on the money- those players are either crap (Andrews), settled and Northern-careerists (Abbot, Beckett, Holt) or just generally trouble (byfield). Easter is, i suppose, the exception, but you've no idea how much wycombe would ask for him, (bear in mind that Mcleod went for over a million, and that wycombe managed to get 600k for Nathan Tyson). plus, to use the favourite phrase of the board moaners, he's only scored goals in League 2 and thus is (drum roll) unproven!

the only striker i really feel we missed a trick on, to be honest, is Adam Boyd.

Abbott would have been a good signing. Knows where the back of the net is, generally impressed whenever he played against us (including scoring a cracking goal at Roots Hall two years ago) and available this summer. But he's moved now so a bid for him is a non-starter.

Holt would be a cracking signing - just what we need. Big, strong, young and a goal scorer. But he's at Nottingham Forest, a club who have no need to accept the sort of offer that we'd be able to make and both Holt & his manager have said that his issues last season are behind him and that he'll be staying, particularly with the injury doubts over Tyson & Agogo.

Boyd? I'd have loved us to go for him but again there is baggage there without a doubt which is why Luton let him go on a free having paid a fortune for him. We should have gone for him and Thornton, to be honest.
