lay off tilly

tilson can only work with what the club can afford, some of you have to get in the real world because this season we were nailed on for mid table or lower.

to be honest tilson is one of the brightest gaffers around and he has only remained here out of his love for the club.

tilly will go on to bigger and better clubs and thats a given.

I agree, it was always going to be a mid table season at best after losing Bailey and Gower in the summer, plus having no money to spend. People need to be realistic, suggesting sacking Tilson is ridiculous.

My favourite thing about the "sack the manager" rants that now inevitably follow any defeat is the way that they studiously avoid making anything that might be construed as a constructive suggestion on how the club might move forward. Because, of course, if you suggested an appointment that would be realistically within the club's means and it came to pass your judgement might come into question. Better to keep your options open so that you can get on the back of whoever the next manger is too, eh?

What do we all seriously expect...a few years back we was a club struggling to stay in the league...now everyone wants consistent championship football and promotion challenges. Its not realistic. I personally am delighted with out current position withen the entire football league.

As Lord Football says elsewhere, too many of our current support have been spoilt with the recent successes and glory days. Let's get real and realise (those of us that haven't) that the changes in personnel this season would obviously impact on our performance and mean we would not be one of the front runners in this division this season. With further changes still to come because Clarke would seem to be on the way out, let's just accept that this is going to be a "building" season, and that we can sort out our problems ready for a realistic challenge next season.

Whilst accepting the limitations of the current squad, what i dont understand is the too often ',casual could'nt care less, lack of passion, rather not be here' performances some players give off.
Motivation comes from above and i'm afraid this dos'nt appear to be Tilsons strong point. Perhaps Ron martin should go in the dressing room for a pep talk before each game?.

thank God someone's said it. The knee jerk Pavlovian responses to every defeat are frankly embarrassing. Who but the most deluded fan goes to Hartlepool expecting to win. That's the problem. I'm sure Tilly and other professionals who know the reality of football come onto fan boards for a rollicking good laugh at the "experts". I particularly laughed at the fans who went there should get a refund and all this lack passion and tactically naive stuff.
Plus shouldn't all those chained to their PCs on a Friday night not be out enjoying themselves.

I'd rather watch a team that gave everything and lost than a bunch of could-try-harders
that can't be bothered!

A little bad run and all the wailing and gnashing of teeth starts up again!

A few weeks ago we were 6th in the table which at the time was way overacheiving for everything that has happened this season, Tilly will turn things around i'm sure.

Everyone calm down! Tilson is an absolute legend, look what we've achieved under him. We might be in a bad patch at the moment, but a few more shrewd signings in January and we'll be comfortably mid-table come May.

we went to hartlepool not expecting to win but at least see a team try to win a game we spent 7hours each way on a coach to see a team that had no idea were the goal was.

I think saying only the most deluded fan goes to Hartlepool expecting to win is itself a bit deluded.

We're talking Hartlepool here, not ****ing Real Madrid. That's a Hartlepool side who, like ourselves, had not won since 28 October and were struggling to the extent that they saw it fit to part company with their manager.

Now, no-one expects a win; but what we do expect is to see a well-drilled, organised side playing with cohesion. A side who will play for each other and look to fight for, and win every ball. A side looking to create openings and trying something different if 'plan a' doesn't come off. A side who have the confidence and ability not to get caught in possession or out of position and a side who have the knowledge and awareness to pick-up opposition players from dangerous positions and set-pieces.

Last night's side had none of these attributes. If they did, a win would have been a very realistic thought.

If the players are not putting in 100% effort I have every sympathy with fans travelling 600 miles to support them.

When Rob Newman was in charge I went , with a delegation from ShrimperZone, to Roots Hall to have a meeting with Newman, David Crown and Steve Tilson. We discussed various issues as the team were on a losing streak at the time and we told "the management" that we were quite prepared to put up with the team losing but we were unhappy with the fact the players didn't seem to be trying. We said "that if the team put in as much effort playing as the fans did travelling all round the country supporting them, we would be happy. The team then won three on the trot.
Perhaps it's time for another Mcnasty chat with Tilly.

Well Southend have always been a club not to pay a lot for money. If i remember rightly, didnt Tilly go to Canvey as a player because they offered him more money?

We released him. He went to Canvey because he could earn more money there, whilst doing other work, than at a number of lower league Clubs.

tilly lost 2 excellent players in bailey and gower which was a hammer blow to the team, furthermore he then lost his 2 best forwards in barney and dougie.

we are only a small club which simply cannot replace/entice the players that have left or been injured.

i for one would be content to remain in this division.
