Last nights homework

Blimey. I don't even post and I get mentioned on here.

ps I think it's a cracking idea, although Mandarin/Cantonese are tricky to learn, being tonal languages. Oh, and Osymandus, learning Latin is a waste of time unless you're intending on invading the Holy Roman Empire. It is only slightly related to the Romance languages of today and so doesn't actually help you in anything unless you want to be pretentious or go into law or medicine.

Can't be that difficult I see plenty of little Chinese kids all chattering away in Mandarin/Canonese at about 4 or 5 years of age. I couldn't speak a foreign languange at that age.

My 2 year old had her first Spanish lesson at nursery yesterday!
She spent the whole journey home, saying "Ola, Mumma, Ola Daddy" :p

Unless your using it to understand the grammatic structuring of said languages (i.e Spanish , Italian and French being 3 major ones i know of) , they havnt really changed Spanish at all in comparison (which is odd really as the Moors and Islamic culture was there for so long oh well)

HRE rebranded years ago dear boy where you been ;) (Antiok ??)

Ah, good point. I've always found this strange, as Jesus spoke Aramaic (apparently), and the Romans crucified Jesus, so why use the Roman language to worship him?

I believe that would be the Holy Roman Empire et all again (they get about the buggers) If only the Vandals , Goths and Persians had actually finished them off Grrrr if only !!!!

Still that's the problem when your civilised i suppose .

What did the Romans ever do for us (aside from a pain in the **** religion).
And its less then you'd think ;)

I still disagree. Linguistics uses current languages to identify/understand grammatical structure, not dead ones.

:D

Well, when they've been brought up on it, it's easier. In fact, 2-3 years old is the perfect age to learn a second language - there's what's called a window of language where you learn so much easier.

You see ive tried that dead language argument before , but they say no we speak it and have writings so it cant be bed (grr bloody academics)

unfortunately, no-one actually knows what Latin sounded like - so although you can have a stab at its pronunciation, it will never be 100% correct.

Hence my post earlier about our Nursery introducing Spanish to the 2-3 age group!

My friends daughter apparently started talking spanish the other day while reading a couple of lines in a book. Shes 2 aswell.
