I couldn't find anything even close to that price for Carlisle when I checked a week ago. In fact it worked out far cheaper to fly up to Newcastle and get a train from there.

If anybody's going to do similar but fly to Glasgow or Prestwick & then get the train down, you're quite welcome to accompany me, Irish_Shrimper & his mate and possibly Aberdeen Shrimper & his Mrs on the journey from Glasgow Central to Carlisle!
Make that me and 2 others!! The flights from Shannon to Glasgow went down to 10 euro - so might be able to get another one in too ;)
Now all that is left to plan is what drinking game we play on the train from glasgow down to carlisle :D
Ah, I see this has the potential to get messy
Dont they still do a Rail Card where you get a 3rd off all fairs for a year ? If you did all 5 by train you'd save a small fortune.
I remember getting a Family Railcard thingy for the first LDV at Cardiff. Cost me £20 but was valid for a year. I saved £29 just on the LDV trip alone. Maybe something to look into ?

Just hope they don't lock us in for as long as the last time I was there then....
:(
Only if they don't lock us in at the end for "our own safety" like they did last time we played (& won :D) there! Didn't get let out until 5 past 5!
Station is about 5 minutes in a taxi (if you can find one), 20-25 mins walk from ground.
