I couldn't find anything even close to that price for Carlisle when I checked a week ago. In fact it worked out far cheaper to fly up to Newcastle and get a train from there.

If anybody's going to do similar but fly to Glasgow or Prestwick & then get the train down, you're quite welcome to accompany me, Irish_Shrimper & his mate and possibly Aberdeen Shrimper & his Mrs on the journey from Glasgow Central to Carlisle!
 
Well that's where the 'going out and getting very drunk in Newcastle' part of the plan kicks in.

Make that me and 2 others!! The flights from Shannon to Glasgow went down to 10 euro - so might be able to get another one in too ;)

Now all that is left to plan is what drinking game we play on the train from glasgow down to carlisle :D
 
Dont they still do a Rail Card where you get a 3rd off all fairs for a year ? If you did all 5 by train you'd save a small fortune.
I remember getting a Family Railcard thingy for the first LDV at Cardiff. Cost me £20 but was valid for a year. I saved £29 just on the LDV trip alone. Maybe something to look into ?

Just booked up Carlisle.

8.10 am out of London, back on the 17.20.

Cheapest fare I could find was £28.00.

Got 10% discount for booking online opn GNER website.
 
That walk back to the dtation will be tight, you can always use the alleys at the back, but you have to dodge the bricks :hilarious:

Yeah, if that happens again. Just tell them it is a fire hazard. If regulations haven't changed, they should shift pronto.
