Kevin Maher

Picked up from the match report on the official site :

"In the 72nd minute of the match ... Kevin Maher delivered a curling cross towards the far post ... Barrett rose above his marker to meet the ball with a firm header ... to cancel out Martin Smith's earlier strike for the Cobblers."

"In the 90th minute of the match ... [the resulting] corner kick was clipped in by Kevin Maher and met by a powerful header from Adam Barret that nesled in the bottom-left corner of the net."

I think our Kev should be an early contender for player-of-the-year again ...

Have to agree with you JS. It certainly seems noticeable the games he is either absent or playing below the standard we have now come to expect from him.

Further, dead-ball he is generally excellent now.

According to the match report, an initial cross from Gower was blocked to force the corner that led to the second goal. Weird. I suppose we'll have to wait until those who were there get home to confirm ...

Still think Maher should be up for the award though!

Cheers, Neil ...

Scriv - change the match report!

I think at the moment, we should be thinking about the team's contribution. At the moment, it is not predictable who is going to win the match for us. Recently, major contributions have come from Flavs, Gower, Freddy and today Barrett just to name a few. Not forgetting the overall top performances of other players.

But on the other hand I do agree that Mahers cnotribution is invaluable.

couldnt make it today becouse of work, but surely the blues fans need a pat on the back. great noise from the radio guys. you played your part too

Great battling performance today despite below-par contributions from:
- Freddy; nothing went right for him today and he wanted far to much time on the ball
- Maher; way below his usual excellent standard, gave the ball away today more than I've seen the rest of the season put together
- Spinner; again we're used to better from Spinner now, several unforced errors that could have cost us dear

Not to take anything away from the lads though; we're now in a situation where if certain players slip a bit others step up to the mark...

and the award goes to Adam "The Legend" Barrett

I'd say that Barrett is running Maher very close for the award and I'm fully expecting Freddy to be in third although I feel it will be some what undeserved.

I'll agree with that (from what little I've seen/heard)

Maher's been brilliant for us over the past few seasons, and we do miss him when he's not there. Barret's probably had more of an impact on this season though, and I don't think it's coincidence that we started off with a bad spell when he was on the bench.

Eastwood? I don't think he's done enough yet.

So, yes, I'd go Barret for Player of the Season, with Maher as player of the millenium (again, so far)

Mind you, what do I know? Bleedin' part time fans!

Its what I think will happen, but its not who I'd vote. He'll finish third because his a fans faviourite. Next time your down at the Hall, listen to the cheer when they read out the starting line ups, Eastwood's cheer is bigger than any of the other players' and for that reason alone I think he'll be third behind Maher and Barrett.

Whilst I believe Maher is an integral pat of the team - you can visibly see the confidence in our midfield lessen when he's unavailable - Adam Barrett's contribution this term has been colossal. Without him, in my view, we simply wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now. He's my man of the season by some considerable distance so far.

Have to say I agree 100% with OATC's post, nothing more needs to be said!

Not having been at the match today I just thought I'd put in a few words for Prior's contribution this season. One of the more inspired signings, he's a great pro to have in the team who's experience is invaluable. OK he makes the odd gaffe but can never be accused of not giving it his all.

Full marks also to Edwards who must be disappointed not to get a more regular run out (current injury doesn't help of course). Certainly didn't let us down when covering for Spinner.

I'm right with OOATC. It's a toss up between Maher and Barratt at the moment for me. To make things fairer we might have to have a joint vote for goalkeeper. Both have their strengths and weaknesses but both have contributed in equal measure to the success of the season so far.

Kevin is, of course, a legend so it will take something extra special for Barratt to edge it between now and May.

Gotta be Barrett for me, so far ...

Maher wasn't superb tdoay IMO. He had some of our better chances but his passing was wayward and slach and his balls forward were nothing short of terrible.

Funny. In the Mail on Sunday's football pullout, they devote half a page to the game yesterday (including a picture of a two-man Cobbler assault on Eastwood) and claim that Maher took the second corner. Now, I am inclined to believe those who were actually at the game but it does make you wonder whether there is a pool from which various media outlets get their information. I suppose they could have checked the official site?
