Kevin Maher

Kent Shrimper

Mike Reid
Reading the OS it would seem that Kev will be our 3rd most appearances once he has played against Bristol Rovers

He deserves a big well done, he has shown the club huge loyalty, and has performed brilliantly more times than not.

Finally, Captain Kevin Maher will go third in United's all-time league appearance list against Rovers.

The midfielder leaps above Tony Bentley with his 382nd league appearance.

Sandy Anderson leads the way with 452, with Alan Moody second on 446.

Its a fantastic achievement, but I'd suggest that the club has shown as much loyalty to him, as he has to the club. Whilst the last handful of seasons he has performed well more often than not, his first half of his career was generally lacklustre with his effort only matching his talent on selected occasions.

His most impressive achievement is probably winning the crowd round.

Ok, it's not a shame, but Maher should just retire though... it's all about Bailey and Macca in the middle now!

J, that is well harsh. :guns:

Thurgood's tackle was horrible and deserved the red, (he always was a dirty little thug).

Kev has shown loyalty not seen often in the modern game, performed well in the last four or five years, proudly captained the side and yet he still gets abuse from some of the Hall crowd.

I for one look forward to seeing him go on and hopefully beat the record appearance total and will be more than happy to go to his well earned testimonial game.

Might just show how wrong those who feel Maher is not up to it. Would you back the likes of Tilson and Webby who played him or someone like J. :)

Well done Kev. Sandy Anderson and Alan Moody are in your sights.

Myself personally..

are you really telling me, out of the 3, you'd choose maher instead of either bailey or macca?

Hmmm...

Depends on formation.

If I were one to choose a midfielder to play in front of the back 4 than Maher definitely, in a 4-1-3-2 thing.
Bailey and Macca are good players at our level, no doubt, but not in that role.

Yes, I would pick Maher for our next game ahead of McCormack, as I don't fancy a points deduction for fielding a suspended player.

Fishes 1 (CS J, OG) Fisherman 0.

Interesting... Would have to say that Bailey has probably been the pick of the three so far this season. Flip of a coin between Macca and Maher at times, but all three need to reduce the number of cards being shown to them...

You really are a wazzock... who even mentioned our next game? I think you're trying to divert the subject, as you know you're wrong.

Happy Christmas to you as well J. ;)

You were earlier wishing Thurgood had injured Maher. I was pointing out that was an OG as McCormack is suspended for our next game and we'd need our captain.

Over the last 5 years maher has been our most consistant player. Although he has had more competition this year he is easily still one of the best holding midfielders in the league. Ok he doesnt always go forward but thats what the rest of the midfield are for. I say well done to him and hope he plays for a few more years to come. we always gonna need cover for the to yellow card magnets in the midfield anyways.

See, that's better than wishing a club stalwart a career threatening injury.

Not a career ending injury... just something that will keep him out of the starting eleven for a while. Because he won't be dropped again...
