KEVIN Maher’s testimonial match will take place at Southend United’s Roots Hall ground in May.
A team packed full of Shrimpers legends will be taking on a Premier League All Stars side on Friday May 16.
And Maher cannot wait for kick off.
“The response since we announced the testimonial has been brilliant and we’re delighted to be able to share details of the match now,” said Maher.
“We’re going to be getting a squad of former Southend team-mates back together to play against a Premier League All Stars team and we’re already looking forward to it.
“I’m really pleased it’s going to be on a Friday night too.
“I’ve always loved the night games at Roots Hall.
“There’s always a good atmosphere at the ground but it seems extra special for an evening game so it’s very exciting.”
Players from both teams will be announced in the coming weeks along with details of how to buy tickets.
Maher has been granted a testimonial after his tremendous service to the Shrimpers which spans 17 years in total.
He made 454 appearances as player and skippered Blues to back to back promotions as well as victory against Manchester United.
A spell as Southend’s under 23 coach was followed by him being named head coach in October 2021.
Since then Maher has guided the Shrimpers through an incredibly difficult period and was awarded the freedom of the city for his efforts.
By the end of the season, Maher will have been involved in more Southend matches than anyone else in the club’s 119 year history.
Further events are also being planned for Maher’s testimonial year and will be announced via kevinmaher.co.uk.
