Err yuck - now I know that he has been mixing it with McCarthy the Mug we definately dont want him.

I'm surprised there's no championship clubs sniffing around, a good striker I always thought.

As people have said, if he's on reasonable wages (3k or less would be a bargain considering he has no transfer fee, 300k for 2 years service, wages and fee is good) then why not.

I can only hope that he does not rekindle his premiership form with us as he has done with Coventry, recall watching him a few times on Sky very poor performance no pace and had nothing to offer in the box either, but then Nugent is very similar if you've watched him playing for Portsmouth.

This guy would surely end up being a target for boo boys, but then again everyone of our players have at some stage :stunned:

I'm not sure that you can read too much into his track record. Many on here, myself included, were saying the same thing about Lee Barnard in January.

the sun quotes him as being on £7000 a week, surely he'd have to take a dramatic cut to come to us!!

Didn't stop Ron Martin paying Shaun Goater those kind of wages or Rickety Ricketts... at the end of the day Ron Martin always signs at least one player over the top of Tillys head each pre-season...!

In todays sun

Coventry outcast Kevin Kyle could resurrect his carreer at Southend

Dont know anything about this fella, anyone know anything or if there is anything to this rumour? the sun quotes him as being on £7000 a week, surely he'd have to take a dramatic cut to come to us!!

He would need to take a big cut down, i wouldn't pay £7000 a week for him

Goater was on nowhere near that when he was here. He wasn't even in our top 3 highest earners at the time. And Ricketts' wages were mainly still coming from his former clubs that had dumped him off early.

And where an earth did you get that from about Ron? Secondly, you don't actually believe it surely?

Thats interesting... where did you hear that Goater was on less then the top 3 earners?

I learnt some of my information from people who are very well informed of the day to day running of the club, for that reason I will not name names. Ricketts was a Ron Martin signing!

I remember Goater saying that at first he was so disillusioned with football that he just wanted to retire, and it was only Tilly's persistence that persuaded him to come to Roots Hall.

And a large chunk of Fat Boy's wages were still being paid by Leeds, we didn't actually pay that much ourselves.

Goater was on a relatively small wage, I think - somewhere in the region of £1,500 a week. He'd just been paid off by Reading so money wasn't an issue with him. Ricketts, I believe, was on a much higher wage but as others have said, a large chunk of that was being paid by Leeds.

I know someone within the club at a very high level, but most of what I know I will not divulge on here.

Kris' figure is correct. Goater was on £1,500 a week whilst here. Half of what Spinner was on.

2 points of order:

(a) As said above, The Goat was on nothing like that.

(b) In any event, The Goat's ability to find the back of the onion bag has never been in doubt. The same cannot be said for Kevin Kyle.

Gut instinct tells me that Kyle isn't our sort of player - not a local boy, not hungry enough, and not the sort of legend (unlike The Goat) who will put bums on seats. But as I always say, if Tilly & Brush want him, then that's good enough for me.
