Kenneth Biggley reported dead

Latest reports from Iraq, Mr Biggley has been reported as dead. He was last seen chained hand and foot behind bars 9 days ago.
His family were optimistic after reports that he had been handed over to a different rebel group with no political claims purely money.
His family also recently obtained an Irish passport in the hope this would assist in his bid for freedom.

RIP

I hate Billy Conolly, but these are unconfirmed reports. Remember those two Italian women were reported dead and they turned up okay.

Yahoo are reporting this as a real possibility unfortunately.

Again, Mr Connolly i hope you are happy you insensitive, narcissistic
and empathy free tw*t.

What did he say... I missed that particular gem...

Less of the "Scottish pr*ck" as well... the fact that he's often a total nob is, to be fair, nothing to do with the fact that he's Scottish.

he said the other day that "I wish they'd just get on with it",  well it seems they have.

He said that they (Bigley's captors) should get on with it rather than dragging it out.

Whilst I feel for his family you have to question what Bigley was actually doing out there in the first place. I can't understand why anyone (non military) would risk their lives out in Iraq.

Instead of people getting angry with Billy Connolly maybe they should get angry with those who have caused absolute carnage in Iraq. Step forward Messr's Bush & Blair.

If I remember rightly he told his family he would be going out there for a year and then he would never need to work again due to the amount of money he could make which would all obviously be tax free.

There are hundreds and hundreds of British people over there though, which I do not think many people realise.

He made it in Edinburgh if I remember rightly and got booed off the stage by the audience who also were dismayed by his comment.

Good,

Connolly's gotten away with so much over the years and he's had a great ride from the press.
I saw footage the other day were he was calling an interviewer 'the enemy' and told him to 'f**k off'.

Hopefully some negative press will get through to him.

personality disordered tw*t.

In all honesty I can't say I feel more sympathy for Bigley than I do for the countless innocents who've been killed in Iraq so far.
He placed himself in danger, most of the dead didn't have any choice whether they were there or not.
I've just read on the BBC site that the septics have bombed another wedding. Will their be an outpouring of grief in the UK that this has happened? I don't think so. The Americans kill with impunity but as soon as a Westerner gets popped everyone is supposed to be outraged.
I know it sounds callous but I won't be shedding any tears for a man whose own greed put his head in the executioners block.

Obviously you don't care about providing for your family as best as you can then?
'Greed' is just a stupid word to use.

However i'm with you and agree with the general concept of your comment, innocent Iraqi's are murdered every day and no one bats an eyelid.
The main crux of my anger is towards Connolly's insensitivity however and it would be so if he said anything about the Iraqi population.

I don't dispute that he was insensitive but you'll never stop black humour. People will always laugh at others misfortune, it's human nature.

As for the comment about providing for my family, I understand what you're saying but I'd rather be poor and alive than rich and dead. Caring and providing for your family is about far more than just money. If Bigley had really thought about going to Iraq he'd have surely have seen that the risks far outweighed the benefits.
Maybe greed is wrong, stupidity would be more appropriate.

Re the point of the booing (the sun reported this first by the way ) , nobody booed at the London Apollo show (stated by a member of the audience at said london show, more gasps ) , he didnt do it for publicity as his show was sold out without being advertised.

I believe Wessex was propably questioning the sanity of entering a warzone souly for the purposes of finacal gain, being taken as a hostage and our media etc acting as if it were a member of the red cross that had been taken ?

Incidentally, this is now being reported as fact by the BBC:

Hostage Bigley murdered in Iraq

May he rest in peace... his is, perhaps, as stupid and pointless as every other death that's happened there, but worse than some of the others in that it was utterly premeditated, and needlessly barbaric.

And perhaps he did put himself in harm's way... but then, having worked in the region for much of his career, you can forgive him for thinking - in perhaps a somewhat blase manner - that he would be OK.

Unfortunately, so long as Iraq has oil and Bush has a bloodlust, people will continue to die. I hope Dubbya loses at the polls, and then gets indicted for what he is - a war criminal.

Matt

Billy Connolly is a kn*b, not funny at all.

Very sad to hear about Ken Bigley, totally barbaric. Reports this morning are suggesting that he tried to escape before being murdered. Another victim of this pointless war

R.I.P. Ken Bigley

One tragic and unnecesary (on many counts) loss of life and everyone seems to be in uproar. Though I have sympathies with his wife and family there is no denying that he was chasing rich financial rewards and must have been well aware of the risks he was taking. That's not to say in any way whatsover that his barbaric killers are nothing more than scum.

Hundreds of thousands of lives lost in the name of "collateral damage" and "WMD" and the "axis of evil" and everyone says 'ooh, that's wrong' before getting on with their lives.  Give it a week or so and everyone will have forgotten about Biggley.

Sadly when the US election comes Bush will win on an "I'm defending America" ticket. You're average yankee is thick as sh*t.

Sadly also when it comes to the next UK election not one party is standing out unequivocally stating that the current war in Iraq is all wrong. Even if they did UK elections are not won on overseas policy, they are won on personal taxation, income and job issues.

This war is not being fought in my name but I pray for the brave troops and their families who don't have that choice.
