Youth Team
I sometimes have a look on this site to see how you lot are getting on – ever since Eastwood was first linked with us. Recently you have signed ex Wolves player Leon Clarke so I am also interested to see if he has progressed at all since he departed Molineux.

Judging by some of the posts, It seems as though you have had a rough start to the season, with some of you questioning the manager, some players coming in for stick and a general feeling of 'must improve asap'.

Now I'm not here to rub your noses in it – far from it – but you ( arguably ) lost your best player in the Summer – a player who you could rely on to frequently 'get you out of jail' or provide a moment of inspiration to grab you a point or three. I know this is a bit of a tenuos comparison – but the same happened to us when Steve Bull was on the wane – and eventually retired. Luckily we had a player coming through – though none of us knew about him – Robbie Keane. Although not a goalscorer like Bull, he became our talisman – the player we relied on to change a game. Eventually ( as with Freddy ) he was sold on and we had a few relatively goalless years until we chanced upon Nathan Blake and Dean Sturridge – who, along with Kenny Miller – eventually fired us to promotion.

The point is this – someone will come along – however far fetched that seems at the moment. Tillson unearthed Eastwood ( I think? ) – who is to say he cannot do it again? Perhaps one of your loanees will become your new hero? Perhaps there is someone in your youth sides who is ready to make that step up? You may laugh at the thought but who is playing right wing for England Under 21's these days? Where did he start his career?

It is often the case that relegated sides take a while to adapt to their new surroundings. All I'm saying is keep the faith, I'm sure Tillson knows what is required and he will deliver before too long. Remember what he has done for Southend.

P.S Kightly started his career at Tottenham ;)

Our youth set up is amazing we have some serious talent coming through with the likes of Ademeno, Moussa, Lokondo and this new Sweddish youngster. A couple of years time with our youth lot coming through we will have an awesome side if we can keep them.

We do lack the Freddy presence which I am hoping Leon Clarke can take his place while he is on loan as he seems to be an excellent player from what I have seen of him and would definatly be a fantastic player at this level.

We have the game against Gillingham tomorrow it will be a new start and lets hope we can get a winning streak on the go, and start the ball rolling.

Oh right, I didn’t know about Kightly! The point remains though – whether a player comes through your youth team or is brought in from outside – a player or players will come in and fill the breach. Look at the way Coppel has engendered success at the Madjeski – they arent a one man side are they? You have probably been over reliant on Eastwood – and who can blame you – over the past couple of years, maybe this is a chance for some of the lesser lights to make the step up and become stars in their own right?

top post. Even if we had signed the elusive 'proven' goalscorer everyone was crying out for, it would still probably look like we were lacking up front, everyone having grown accustomed to Freddy's moments of genius. Now i'm restricted to that Youtube compliation, and watching dozens of previews of the Wales-Germany game on SSN to see the Bulgaria goal again, but such is life. goals are difficult to come by for the majority of sides, we'll do ok once we get games reduced to 80 minutes...

Very debatable. I believe he didn't even make an appearance at Tottenham at any level, and left when he was about 15. I'd hardly say he 'started his career' at Tottenham. IMO you start a career when you actually make a breakthrough to Senior Reserves/First Team, not when you are first taken on by a club when you are 12...

Picky I know, however if you are going to try and be clever with Wolf then I'll do the same thing to you! :flamer:

Good post.

When you not spouting on about Freddy I actually quite like your posts.

Would be perfect timing for them to come through to play at Fossett Farm Stadium!

Yes Wolf1, I will keep faith with Tilson - we are playing football the right way, we just not getting an break at the moment, letting last mins goal nearly every game just p*** us off as its becoming a habit.

Not 100% in agreement old chap. A persons career starts at the beginning, when you start to learn your trade..As a youngster, no matter about the age, Kightly started learning his trade, (in this case football) whilst at Spurs, thus this is where his career started:)

Well your theory means he actually probably didn't kick his first ball at Spurs and probably more likely in his parents back garden when he was two. :p

If more realistic from that theory, then he probably started with a local team like Ekco Whitecaps or someone.

He didn't ever earn a contract at Spurs and is not even listed on Soccerbase as with Spurs, so I just can't really see how Kightly 'started' as he never actually started anything at Spurs! :flamer:

Well that's a much more sensible post than most we've had on here the last coupla weeks wolfie! You're spot on.

To be honest we've played 4 games and we've (honestly) been much the better side in all of them but have been done either by a cheating b*****d who got one of ours sent off and changed the game or some poor defending from aerial assaults in the other 2 defeats. Like last season we've played some lovely football, real quality but obviously Freddy is a big loss and we've struggled to convert chances. The addition of Leon Clarke may well help that as well as the young lad from Leicester who sounds promising (Charlie MacDonald looks sharp too). At the other end though is the main problem and that is that we have a keeper who doesn't command his 6 yard box never mind his penalty area and that needs addressing be it through Flahavan improving this side of his game or someone else to be brought in. Yes the defence need to also do better from set-pieces but the root of the problem is between the sticks, no question about that.

Having said that there's no way I can see a side who play such good football being down there for long, I think due mainly to Freddy's departure and the fact we've spent virtually nothing from his (and JCR's) sale we'll fall short of the play-offs this time round.

All the best with our Freddy, look after him!!

;)

Subject done to death but a response anyway...

1. He did ok when we got two promotions, and I believe is a better keeper now than then.

2. Collis was in goal against Dagenham and we still let in two.

3. Conceding late goals in most games shows a lack of confidence and nerves after all if it was down to a dodgy keeper we would concede goals all the time, not just at the end.

We need to solidify as a team and regain our confidence and stop playing with fear and nerves, not replace our keeper.

We could do with a natural goalscorer but the rest of the squad is good anough andas wolf1 rightly says, keep the faith...

That is taking it a bit silly, as an accountant can then say he started his career when he was a toddler, playing with magnetic numbers on a white board.

Try something new... once in a while admit that someone else can have a valid point and you are not always 100% right in what you say!!;)
