TV Highlights Just seen the highlights

Mick, is an offside attacker who causes a defender to clear the ball due to it heading towards that said attacker, interfering with play or not? I've always wondered. For me, if you're offside, and the ball's heading your way and is intercepted (like yesterday), the attacker is surely interfering, but do the rules back that up?

No, sadly not.

A little more detail:

In the context of Law 11 – Offside, the following definitions apply:
• “nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of a player’s
head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the
ball and the second-last opponent. The arms are not included in this
defi nition
• “interfering with play” means playing or touching the ball passed or
touched by a team-mate

• “interfering with an opponent” means preventing an opponent
from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing
the opponent’s line of vision or movements or making a gesture or
movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an
opponent
• “gaining an advantage by being in that position” means playing a ball
that rebounds to him off a goalpost or the crossbar having been in an
offside position or playing a ball that rebounds to him off an opponent
having been in an offside position

So, it would appear that the referee was correct to ignore a briefly and erroneously raised flag from his assistant.

We're both in the dog house Shrimpero. Crowstone is a lovely lady.
I've already apologized in another thread, your turn, lol.

Do you know, TSNB - even in the slightly askance 'been out on a Saturday night' state I was in, I did think "hold on, this might not be a fella" but reckoned by the style it was posted in and the law of averages, I'd not need to worry. How wrong can you be? Apologies to the lovely Crowstone Crevette. :)

now hang on a minute - this is exactly how nazi germany started!!!

vicous lies, proganda & slandering leather shorts...

sorry went a bit off track.

(in a testostorone typ of way)

Whoops - should have read p.2! Welcome to the zone, fella!

Just trying to keep a level head. He scored on his debut, but his stats don't exactly suggest that we are going to see great things from him.

I hope I'm wrong. As I said on another thread, I'm pleased he scored on his debut....But I'm not going to get carried away.

Sorry for having an opinion

1 game, 1 goal.
How long did he come on for?
If he shins them in, it doesn't matter, nobody is getting carried away, I'm just delighted he saved us a point he can score goals like that all season if he likes.

It seems like if you don't score a hatrick and you don't perform fabulously for 90 minutes you don't have a chance as a striker.

You can have an opinion.
But if you haven't seen him many times, then you can't doubt him can you? I can't anyway, I can look at his stats and they are pretty poor but so far he has scored 1 in 1.

I just hope he isn't pushed out this club along with Corr this season, just like Billy Paynter.

People who have stated that we should play to the whistle are correct. Unfortunately, as we have learnt many times there are only 2 Laws in football those being Law 1 The referee is always right. Law 2 states if you disagree with any refereeing decision refer to Law 1.

The main thing that really got me was the melee after the ball had been delivered back to the centre spot and the Stockport players who moved and kicked it away from our players, tis causing the restart to be delayed. How did the Assistant on the West side miss the Number 8 kicking the ball away? He was not even consulted by the referee, although as we know from Law 1 he is always right.

Under his own code of conduct, disciplinary fine for the Manager me thinks.

Just seen the highlights:

Their goal - dreadful, play to the whistle!

Our goal - great corner (by who?), great knockdown (was that Corr?) and a shinned finish by Sturrock but he was in the right place

I blame Ron Martin. If he hadn't taken that holiday when he did we would certainly have won this game.

Soares had been taking them earlier, but think this was Zaaboub (sp?). Nice knock down by Corr and Sturrock doing exactly what Freddy used to do, and we'd have been raving about if it had been anyone but Sturrock - give him a chance!

I'm am giving him a chance! He was in the right place and he shinned it in... instant hero IMO. Hernandez is already a cult hero for United and he smashed the ball against his face to score on Sunday!
