Just got back...

great great game. was really surprised how well we coped.

flavs 9 - was solid and save some amazing saves. how we saved the one with his leg i don't know.

francis 6 - looked fit, didn't have too much to do really
barrett 7 - as per usual was solid, handled there main striker well
hunt 7 - did really well, filled in very nicely at left back
richards 7 - had his dodgy moments and a few hoofs but did ok

Bailey 8 - gets better and better and better. looking very good so far
Moose 8 - realy like moose, he showed skill, confidence and is going to be a very good player
Black 9 - followed on from millwall, played very good, caused mayhem for the waford defence.
Macca 7 - a bit quiet but played well.

Mcdonald 9 - looked lively and again and great goal. maybe should have scored another but did very well.
Harrold 8 - get ready to frame this as i do not say this very often. he did very good tonight. won a lot of headers and tackles. even set up a few chances and scored a good goal. should have scored a couple more though. lol

Don't do cup games but was Flavs really that good?, the Collis fans must be gutted and was Kev the crab missed? thought not bout time the team went forward rather than backwards and sideways!

To be fair Wiggy Flaves made 2 really good saves early on and after that just needed a safe pair of hands.
Kev wasnt really missed but Macca got a booking for doing nothing but with Bailey playing as he has done for the last 2 I would think Tilly will find it hard to drop him, and therefore go with Bailey and Maher or Macca.

Flavs wasn't as good as matty rated him but he did do well. Was confident on crosses and pulled off a simply astounding reflex save with his legs in the first half when I was sure that Watford had scored. Stunning stop. But we know that Flavs can do that.

Maher wasn't missed tonight. To be honest, I really think that by the end of this season the two guys who played central midfield tonight will be established as our first choice partnership. Between them they have so much energy and drive and whilst right now we can accomodate them both alongside Maher I suspect that the form of Mark Gower & Tommy Black will mean that that won't be the case for long.

It won't happen but would like to see Maher benched as feel we might be a bit more exciting, Bailey and Macca for Brighton, cut out those powder puff loopers that the captain loves!

Yes Flavs made a fantastic reflex save with his legs but he should never have had to make the save in the first place. If he had come for the ball and collected it their player would never have got the shot in! Never mind Flavs dominating the box, I'll settle for him taking control of his 6 yard box. Time after time he stayed rooted to his line. If I was Collis I would be putting in for a transfer.

If Flavs was over 6' he probably would come for more crosses. However, he plays to his strengths and that isnt coming for crosses. He kept a another clean sheet (a club record now), so I dont really think we can ask much more can we?

I would agree if these were towering crosses, but some of these balls were just off the deck. What would you prefer, someone who cuts the danger or constantly relying on someones point blank reflexes to keep the goals out. BTW - if you look at a previous poll where 2/3rds of SZ said they would pick Collis ahead of Flavs for the Leeds game, I was actually one of the 1/3rd who thinks we should stick with Flavs. However, this area is something that is really beginning to concern me. He was improving at it, but does seem to have taken a step backwards (literallly!) this season.

Another reason why Collis might want to leave - he plays the 1st round match, come the 2nd round there are wholesale changes, yet he isn't given his opportunity.

Best we've played without Maher in years. Harrold improved no end and we've found our front pairing. JCR and Bradbury's wages for a new striker and we'll be going places again.
Get your money on now while you can still get big prices on us - If we sign the striker we all hope for our odds will tumble

I don't think many keepers in the Football League would have come out for the cross. It curled a lot and was whipped in at pace into precisely that area.

We all know that Flavs has problems with coming off of his line, but I think it's harsh to look at that particular example.

Amazing game, Tommy Black is the new Jesus Christ, he's everything we've needed for some time.

Moussa was amazing as well, Harrold same old ****, Maccy D played his heart out, the defence was impeccable, and i'm well tired.

Away at Newcastle or something exciting please.

Where you at!!! Harrold had a very good game is getting better with every game he plays. Black was fair to Average. I would much prefer to see JCR on the right if he is still with us. Yes Moussa was good but IMO he is a central midfielder not a right sided player . And will be one of the most skillful players to have ever worn our shirt. As for Newcastle away you must be tired. Do yo now how far that is on a Tues/Wed night ? Norwich or Ip**** 4 me please. If we have to be away . Prefer any prem league team at home tho.

Amazing ! We win, albeit against Watford reserves, in a competition where we have been shocking over the last 20 years and still we have a midget/beanpole bunfight.

Looking forward to a nice low division oppo for the next game before a nice TV payday at home to Arsenal.

It was interesting listening to Tilly on BBC Essex after the game. He was asked how he thought Francis played. He said that he was pleased with the way he got forward, but that he allowed them to get too many crosses over in the 1st half, and that it's something they have talked about before. I would have agreed with that. Their left winger got in a lot of very dangerous crosses.

Following on from that, I don't really think that Flavs could be blamed for not coming for them. Most 'keepers don't come for low balls to the edge of the 6yrd box.

As for the Harrold debate. Personally I thought he played well last night. I've come to the conclusion that he isn't going to be the most prolific goal scorer, but he really does put himself about and cause problems for defenders. He also showed a lot of strength to hold off the defender for his goal. If that is what he is in the team for then he is doing his job well.

Someone on here complained that he was often too far away from MacDonald, but I see it the other way. If a ball is played to our target man (Harrold) he has to go to the ball to try and either hold it up of flick it on. His position is therefore derived from where the ball is played. MacDonald's should therefore take up a position relative to Harrold. If they are too far apart then it's up to MacDonald to do something about it.

that was me... it's fine him coming deep when getting the ball, but he was too far away from macdonald when he was on the ball. strikers should always be about 15metres apart and there were times when macdonald had broken through and he was miles away. i thought harrold had an excellent game but i think his positional sense is what he needs to work on. also francis was excellent at picking him out

Again, but how does he do that? It's up to the rest of the team to move off the ball. The player with the ball (Harrold) can't just ask the defenders if they'd mind him moving towards his team-mate. Other players should be showing themselves and giving him an outlet, and that includes his strike partner.

Are you also saying that if MacDonald runs onto a through ball and get forced into a corner Harrold should decide not to take up a position in the area because he would be more than 15m away? Isn't that the job of the midfield? It's too simplistic to say they should always be 15m apart. If they did what you suggest Harrold would never have got on the end of MacDonald's centre for his goal.
