JCR Interview

Can't blame the lad for wanting to move forward, after all its not like we will be going up this season!!!

The skilful winger, who spent two years with the Shrimpers, opted to join Barnsley in a £250,000 move on transfer deadline day.

At least we know how much he went for.

I liked JCR, just a shame about his crossing. I like reading interviews like that, it's a proud time to be a shrimper supporter, when players talk about the club like that.

Good to hear him say some nice words about us and I don't really begrudge him his move. That is his decision to make and I wish him well with it.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure that he wouldn't be consistent enough to play in the Premiership. His crossing is pretty appalling to be honest and while he did run the show against Man U, for example, he does have this annoying tendency to attempt to beat one too many players. I could be very wrong though.

Sad to see a decent player leave and like his sentiments. Personally depending upon what we got for him I think its good business. Tommy Black has looked in glimpses a good player and I think a more than capable replacement for JCR.

For those of you who miss JCR, watch England on Wednesday. With England's injury crisis, we'll be forced to field a tiny right-winger with a great work ethic, great skill and no end product. He's even got the double-barrelled name.

That is good to know. £220,000 price increase (not profit when you factor in wages etc.) makes me feel a whole lot better about the situation! :D

JCR always gave his all for the cause, worked hard and appreciated the fans. Fair play to him and I wish him well.

Do u think he is good enough to play in the prem (?) as although his crossing is woeful at best, he is quite skillful and could be quite a handful for defenders

He's good enough to play in the Prem because there are plenty of average players lurking in those bottom-third squads. But he doesn't have that end product yet that is needed to cut it at the next level. Maybe a new set of players and tactics will help him out, time will tell.

My guess though is that he's one of those annoying players everyone says "Wow!" about on first viewing, and then 6 months on you realise that despite his speed, work rate, discipline and attitude he ultimately hasn't quite got that "X" factor.

If he can improve his consistency - particularly in his end product - then he may one day be able to play for a Prem team. As it stands though, Championship is about his level.

:hilarious:

Apart from the fact he's already played for Jamaica he'd be ideal! ;)

Was watching sky sports this morning, Andy Gray was talking about SWP, bundles of skill and energy but sometimes lacks the final ball. Hmmm sounds familiar that phrase about a little right winger.

£250k for JCR, what a great bit of business for probably one of the most overated players in SUFC history.

Yes he did work his socks off but as a winger he's there to provide crosses for the forwards as well as chip in with goals, did he do that? No.

Mark Gower proved last season you dont have to have bags of pace to play a higher standard, just a decent footballing brain. Thats another thing that JCR lacked.

Slightly harsh on the England one.

SWP - 25 - 37 career goals in 187 (79) games
JCR - 24 - 6 goals in 122 (25) games

What a nice thing to say I wish him the best of luck at Barnsley. I just hope it is the right move for him.

He is no tommy black! But its a shame to see him go and that we couldn't have stayed in the championship with him and eastwood!

Good luck to him and I hope his crossing gets better!

Is this the same Tommy Black that can't get a 1st team start?

The same one who has had fitness issues and may be regaining his match fitness ?

Nice words from JCR but think he just copied and pasted exactly what he said about Rotherham when he signed for us.

It seems to me he happily leaves a club as soon as its relegated. Cant blame him for that but wouldnt it be nice to see a little bit of loyalty.

Shame as he left us a better player than when he joined and will no doubt get better.
