Agree with the post, if we had lost this game (we didn't and was a great performance etc) everyone would of been moaning at Ted saying he cost us the goal etc, just because we won doesn't mean we can not highlight his mistake. He has looked poor coming for crosses since his started playing and doesn't install me with much confidence when the ball is in the air.

Yes we won, but it still should be highlighted

Actually think he's been very good from crosses and off his line, in general. He's much improved.

Got some great punches in from crosses and handling has been good.

The biggest compliment is that people are highlighting the odd error, sometimes wrongly in my view, which means his general keeping is a massive boost for the side.

But it was Anton Ferdinand's fault, Ted had it covered until Ferdinand inexplicably beat him to the ball and headed it towards our own goal. The worst you can say of Ted is that he should have shouted for it (assuming he didn't, Anton might have just not heard).

All Ted's "walming" up would have been at the South end, he would have expected us to start at our regular South end for the 1st half. He had no opportunity to gauge where the sun would be - maybe the GK coaching team might have (or indeed, may have) suggested it to him?

It was a misjudgement by Ted...he will make others...... doubt he will blame the entirely predictable position of the sun that has been in the same place at the same time for the last 50 years...he is good keeper who will become a very very good one

Considerably longer than that I would say, it's just Roots Hall that's been in the same position for the last 60 years.

that Ted should have been advised to wear a cap with a peak to combat the low sun.......

really a mark down on goalkeeeping coach and coaching staff......

that said it look as if their goal was down to Antons poor header - maybe he lacked confidence in Ted or Ted lacked the confidence to call - but goalkeepers wearing a cap to counter sun was in all those old time coaching books -

Yeah, we could have had a handover of the cap like this...:smile:JS69381471.jpg

Yes seen caps loads of times, if he did see that ball he should have commanded, punched it away.

I think it's more an error of judgement, and misunderstanding with Ferdinand, rather than the sun or a cap. Apparently, they both held their hands up to it at half time. It's one of Ted's weaknesses. He's done it before a few times, sometimes he doesn't come out and punch when it's blatantly the obvious thing to do. He will learn as he gains more experience.
