Except they didn't have a high press. They just sat back and basically said "Go on then... what have you got?".

The answer was not very much
They didn’t even particularly sit back, we have seen teams drop to the halfway line and defend from there, but they didn’t even do that, there were massive gaps all over the pitch when we had the ball we were just too slow to do anything about it. They packed their box yes and got bodies in the way, that’s was it

What I do know is this…

Last season I felt connected to a Southend team for the first time in years.

This season I feel more disconnected from the team, than my phone signal at Roots Hall.

They aren’t giving us the same effort and fight for the shirt and we aren’t either in return. There’s a big hangover I think and some are damaged beyond repair.

We need to find a way to “mutually agree” to terminate a number of contracts this summer I am afraid. We are overloaded with some absolutely bang average players, some of which that just don’t care like they used to.

The moment we dropped out of the football league was the worst for me. And tbh its all been bad since then.

The worst thing about this giant killing is that won’t even be reported outside of whatever local rag serves Sittingbourne

I feel Kev has suffered as much (more) as he often says the players/staff have by the whole situation of the last few years. He appears the most get on with it type bloke, but sometimes, even for the hardiest of us, what you go through can be surmountable but then sucker-punches you when you least expect it (like bereavement). It might have all been too much, even for Kev.

I agree to a large extent. I do feel that our recent recruitment has fallen way short of the quality of the early Maher signings though. This needs addressing urgently, what’s gone wrong? Whilst some of our previous top performers have been consistently below par (Bridge, Husin, Miley…), I have little faith that any replacements will be improvements right now.

We are lower than Jeff kings Canvey team , 95/05 that team would batter us now.
they played 3 centre backs.. Bodley Ward and one other I cant remember in their glory days.
the 2 wing backs hardly ever spent any tine in their own half , mind you having Tilson and Stimpson in the middle helped
