Question Is this the biggest appointment in the clubs history?

He's getting panned by Plymouth fans on the 606 boards......I remain supportive, yet apprehensive.....Ask me in December

On the Plymouth message board I went to (Pastori I think), there were 4 pages of pretty much nothing but praise and positivity - which considering they dont have much of a reason to discuss it, shows how much he meant to them.

Errrrr No

But that does not mke it a bad appointment necessarily.

Moore, Whelan and Taylor were all 'bigger appointments' in terms of profile.

If he does as well as the last manager we had that also managed Plymouth (being Dave Smith - wonder if he was involved at all as he lives down that way still??!!) then I'd be reasonaly happy

Why? I'm not trying to be funny, I just seriously want to know why the source of cash is that important?

Because the majority of us spent a long time NOT questioning the finances of our club - and look where that got us?

How about - What are the consequences of this cash injection? What future implications may it have on the club? Are we expected to pay it back? If so, what interest are we paying on it and can we afford to pay it?

Good enough reasons for you?

I believe the governor is still holding coaching schools down in Plymouth,Roots Hall was a fortress in them days

barry fry

I always remember when barry fry arrived remember seeing it on teletext early hours on a saturday morning before heading to the sunderland away game

And you want to know the consequences of the cash injection because...

you can do something about it?

Would you believe what RM said if he told you? If no, then why should he bother?

If he said, "we can't afford it really, but everything will be ok once we get the new stadium" what would - or even could - you do?

Why has Sturrock not signed a contract yet though?

Is he waiting for Ron to "Show him the money" for transfers and the embargo to be lifted?

He could in theory just **** off in a few days....

My guess is he's waiting for the embargo to be lifted.

in terms of managerial success I would say yes easily, cant think of any managers we have appointed with 5 promotions on the CV

My guess, is that, and he basically said this,

Signing a contract isn't the top of the list, getting players in and contacting them is.

What the....?

Mate, I respect your views and the fact you always make your points well even if I may not agree with you all the time.

However on this point I just don't understand what your getting at. You asked..."does it matter" where the money comes from? I say it does. I'm not saying a detailed look at any contracts or a spreadsheet giving the figures. Just that it does matter.

That's ok... I'm just saying it doesn't and I can't see why it does. The colour of the money is the same from wherever it's come from. If we've got ourselves into even worse hock than we're in (if that's possible) then surely it will only accelerate Rons departure as we will be wound up and go into administration. He'll never be able to afford to buy it back from the administrators. Then everyone will be happy, yes?

And if we're not in hock for it and it get's us through this season then it equally doesn't matter either. We'll still have a team to support.

My main point is that if Ron said where the money came from no-one would believe him anyway. So why does it matter? We'll never find out and even if we did it would probably only make some feel worse.

I wouldn't read too much into the contract thing. I imagine that these things take a certain amount of time and as I said earlier, Roy Hodgson didn't have one for two years at Fulham.

In terms of importance to the future of the club, I would say yes,
If this appointment does not produce results we could be looking at non league football and a smaller fan base than would have been had we suffered the same fate under Tilly.
