Is Barney the new Freddy Eastwood?

Is Barney the new Freddy Eastwood?

I've heard that if Lee Barnard continues scoring, Capello will take a gamble and take him to South Africa.

Certainly hope not because Freddy was and is **** and is not a team player in the same way Barney is.

Two totally different types of player.. Freddy could run at people take them on and create a goal from nothing, barney is your fox in box type of striker taking any chance that springs up a typical old style striker. Putting the two together would be electric.

Claridge knows f-all and this comparison sums him up.

Steady on - wasn't it Manish who asked whether he was the new Freddy Eastwood, and Claridge told him to rein it in...? I've always thought that Claridge was one of the better pundits, I have to say...

As everyone else is saying, they are totally different types of player. Barney is clearly very, very gifted, though.

And what does Manish know? We're not talking cricket or newsagents.

I completely agree with those that have said they shouldn't be compared. They are two very different players and it's embarrassing to consider the thought of them up front together for us while I'm at work cos I now have a semi and can't get up to make the tea.

However, I think it's inevitable that Barney will continue to be compared with Freddie by those outsiders - they are both the same in that they are goalscorers who grab headlines at Southend.

I personally think that Barney will end up with more goals than Freddie, and on balance I'd rather have Barney than Freddie if I had to choose, simply because Barney is a better all-round player who contributes mroe to a team effort than Freddie did. On that basis the high profile Barney is getting for himself could spell trouble for our ability to keep hold of him for very much longer.

Comparisons between Freddie and Stan were more valid than between Freddie and Barney.

I've been saying it almost since we signed him, Lee Barnard is arguably the most natural finisher at this level. He is an out and out goal scorer, and given the service and fitness he would be more than capable of notching 25-30 goals in a season.

He is not comparable to Freddy Eastwood - He is a natural goalscorer, Freddy was not IMO. Freddy was a far more talented footballer, but scored a lot of his goal through his own work, trickery or flight of foot, he was very rarely around to score the goals your typical 'fox in the box' would score.

Barney is not going to beat 3 men and unleash an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 25 yards, but when the ball is in an around the penalty area, he is likely to score goals.

In any case, Lee Barnard deserves to be mentioned in his own right, and not compared with Freddy Eastwood.

Freddy Eastwood is a waster and Barney is a trier. The former hates football and Barney looks like he likes it!

The difference is for me that Barney has a bit more class about him, but when he can have a poor game he still manages to score a goal, which is what strikers are there for. Eastwood has more flair and can beat a player more comfortablly and is wasted where Coleman plays him for cov city
