Is anyone actually looking forward to.....

Don't forget Plymouth either, they went up back to back and they're holding their own (though they do have far better facilities and fininces).

The post which sums up Southend and some of its followers.

If we get relegated would it be such a bad thing?

Jeez, if thats the case, why did we even bother kicing a balll in anger this season then? We could have saved everyone a ton of money and not bothered and then some of the fans would be over the moon as next year were guaranteed League One football.

Relegation this year would be a sickening blow, what else could it possibly be? Why on earth would anyone except that playing at a level lower than the one you're currently in can be a good thing? It cannot!!

If you are looking forward to trips to Carlisle, Wycombe and whatever else tin pot club gets promoted from League Two then what are you doing here?

This is what it is all about, travelling to places like Leeds, Wolves, Sunderland etc and its about time the fans, players and management pulled out every stop available in an attempt to keep us here.

If it fails, so be it, but for crying out loud, at least go down with all gund blazing, not this air of resignation attitude, it is absolutely pathetic!

First class response. How anyone could look forward to relegation is completely beyond me.

If we went down and did'nt start at a cracking pace its not unreasonable to asume that our gates would soon drop back to the 4-5,000 mark and with players on championship sallaries, we could be in a lot of trouble end up having to sell of our better players to keep our headsabove water. Then the cycle begins again until another Freddy is found on the cheap to transform a medioce side into one that can compete with the big boys.
Can only feel that you've hit the nail on the head with that one. Once we go down and don't start like a bulldozer, the clingers on who only watch us to see us play the big teams will lose interest. Falling gates, drop in money (don't forget the drop in TV revenue), having to sell our players to get monewy and keep wage bill down, then we're stuck. Don't think it'll be quite as rosy as some people make it out to be!

Steady on mate.

Couple of points there. Why did we even bother kicking a ball? Firstly, it's only now that people are resigned to the fact that we're probably going down. At the beginning of the season, when the first ball was kicked, everyone had the same high hopes of success every fan of every other team does and no-one was expecting we'd be in the situation we're in. However, as everyone on here is painfully aware, we're 10 points off safety with Christmas only a few weeks off. Statistics show that the majority of teams that are bottom at that stage of the season go on to get relegated.

Secondly, I don't think anyone is actually looking forward to relegation or saying it's a good thing, as you seem to suggest. Just that relegation isn't the end of the world. At the end of the day, it looks like we're probably going down, so rather than just be completely negative about everything, people are trying to get positives out of the situation.

Beyond that, we've got to be realistic. No amount of bluster on a site like this will keep the club up. It doesn't make any difference if posts on here are negative, positive or indifferent. Obviously the crowd do play a part in a football match, but it's the team that makes the difference and we can't influence how they play.

Are you really suggesting that instead of this air of resignation we as posters should go about with all guns blazing on this messageboard? I can't see how that would make the slightest bit of difference or why you would go as far as saying it's "pathetic!".

Hence the new stadium.

Ron Martin has run this club sensibly, yes we have some higher earners now than last year but he hasnt gone overboard so it wouldnt be a disaster to go down like we did last time.

The new stadium is even more important now than ever, if it gets agreed then hopefully it will allow us a realistic chance of competing for promotion in League one.

Theres no way we will be promoted next season, our confidence will be down and we could struggle to start with. We also wont have a 25 goal a season striker.

However with a new ground and the financial benefits it could bring we could have something to build on.

In reference to my previous post - just re-read Southend Ladies original entry and she does say she is looking forward to League 1, so I take back some of what I said. Don't think anyone else has echoed that point though or that anyone actually thinks relegation is a good thing.

After reading what everyone has replied I guess I was a bit quick to say I was lookijng forward to it. I think it was more the feeling that it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world.

Even though next season (if in L1) wont be a walk in the park it will be a damn sight easier than watching us get beaten week in week out. We need to settle and consolidate. so what if we dont go up straight away next season. Yes the gates will probably drop but I reckon that last two seasons has bought in a lot more fans to the club and would like the think they will not shy away at the first season of defeat.

but i mainly am not sure if we can come back up.
So should we leave it the way it is now, and play out the rest of this season with gutless results like sat?
