Here we go again, FFS, focus on Southend players and not the opposition. Yes the guy did wrong and many would say its unforgivable, but I'm going as a Southend fan and therefore support the team. I dont give a rats arse what any opposing player has done, it's not why I go!

Or do both!!!!

This keeper is a disgrace - throw him to the dogs

sledging opposition players usually blows up in fans faces. They play a blinder. Do you not think he's been to umpteen sports psychologists to usethe innevitable negative chants to his own benefit, increasing his concentration etc. Just ignore him. He won't know how to handle that.

I agree Scott and if it were my kids etc that had been involved i would want to string the guy up. All im saying is that if there is going to be 1000 plus oxford fans there tomorrow then we as home fans need to go one step further and drown out their noise. We all know how effective you guys are in the North Bank for getting the ground going and that will be needed big style tomorrow.

Ah Julian Alsop. Bananaman. I remember that, very much enjoyed that afternoon.

It's inevitable McCormick will get stick tomorrow. I don't care what that does to him, it's other Southend fans that might not be comfortable with it and feel there's no place for that kind of thing at a football match, that's my concern. McCormick could break down in tears and I wouldn't give a monkeys.

Unusual opinion, but I agree that it will make other fans awkward that's just old British don't mention it mentality (which doesn't normally apply to football fans!)

It would be if it were true, but I think you need to ensure your facts are correct first. According to the BBC:

That is just over double the drink drive limit. IIRC the drink drive limit is approximately 2 pints, meaning he must have had about 4 pints. I'm not condoning what he did, I'm just saying we need to separate fact from fiction.

From the BBC report of the court case: "He was seen drinking beer and downing shots of sambuca before leaving the reception at 0200 BST. He got two hours sleep before getting up and leaving for Coventry"

They also have Adam Chapman, who's done time for killing a pensioner in a road crash after he was sending messages on his Blackberry.

Nowhere does it say when he stopped drinking, people tend to stop doing shots at least an hour if not more before leaving somewhere, plus unless his bed was in reception he wasn't going to be asleep by 2. Most people don't even feel drunk if they are twice over the limit, I'm sure a lot of people have driven on what McCormick was on thinking that they were sober enough to drive and have been lucky enough to escape with no consequences.

Anyway this got done to death a while ago, as someone said sports psychologists get players to channel abuse into their performance, Luke will fully be expecting to get hate so I doubt he'll notice if people start giving him abuse, hopefully the fans remember to support the team and not just focus all their efforts on the opposition.

Made my views on him clear many times. More than happy for him to get all the abuse possible.

Sadly any discomfort or shame it makes him feel will not even measure on the scale of the misery bestowed upon the poor kids parents .

It has been covered before and there's no point dragging the moral issue up again because people have differing opinions on the matter. But it'll be interesting to see what reception he gets from his own fans too, not many of them seem too keen on the signing.

If his own fans get on his back that could be beneficial to us, it's easy to ignore the opposition fans abusing you, but it's a lot harder to ignore your own fans.

Yep - just ask Paul Smith

*can of worms successfully opened, dons tin hat, runs off and hides*

Hughes was despicable but IIRC McCormick had been downing beers and shots of sambuca two hours before getting behind the wheel. That's indefensible.

Interesting to read people's views on barracking the opposition (generally speaking, not just McCormick). I for one can see the point about getting behind our team and agree, but I love picking on the opposition when I'm well within earshot in the South Upper. **** haircut, carrying a few extra pounds? Wearing tights?

Good to let us all know what you look like.

I think away to Chesterfield last week, Alexis yelled out the most obscure, middle class 'insult' to opposition keeper Tommy Lee... something along the lines of "You've got two first names you tw@"

The best put down I heard was from a chap sitting in front of me in the South Upper once.

"Oy, keeper. You've got a hunchback."

"Oy....

...Nostradamus!"

He missed out on a whole load of Pammy jokes. And Men In Black jokes as well, coming to think of it.

This is so very true...

It reminds me of a few years back we had filled the away section at Orient so myself + 2 mates went in amongst the Orient "faithful". Not wishing to get involved in fisticuffs we had to pretend we were home fans... Southend were struggling but after a short while every mistake the Orient players made we were hurling abuse at them , ( making sure we appeared authentic by getting their names right )... we were pretty outrageous but it was absolutely amazing how the sheep mentality of your average footy fan soon joined in + those around us copied our abuse of the Orient players. The look of dejection on the Orient players faces getting a mouthful from their own fans was a real picture. It definitely affected them + they made so many errors and just hid away from doing anything creative for fear of a volley of abuse. It was no coincidence Southend soon got on top + ran out comfortable winners.

So it just proved that by abusing your own players you are hurting your own teams chances of winning --- so if you feel the need to get some anger/frustration of your chests then hurl abuse at the opposition. Trust me , if you come out with a good un all around you will appreciate it .
