Inaccurate & lazy BBC journalism again?

I love how you go from suggesting an air of superiority on my part to adopting one yourself. You're a living contradiction.

I'm not saying the BBC is perfect (Exhibit A: The One And Only) but having some form of state-funded media is better than the alternative. Why don't you run away from this socialist hell-hole and go over to the States, where the horrors of state-funded TV are confined to PBS and you can have your pick from Fox News (immigrants and terrorists and liberals, oh my!) or MSNBC (George Bush sux lol).

I tried Canada and the US and came back, they lack a certain something called Southend United, but I would take their telly over ours any day of the week. And I don't recall suggesting that you were adopting an air of superiority, you certainly shouldn't be. And bringing up Fox News in reference to the US Media is such a lazy liberal tactic, I really do despair.

Well you're right there, 24 episode rollercoaster series are definitely better on the whole than the occasional 6 episodes of comedy gold we get over here. As for Fox News, I brought up its liberal counterpart as well. I find the posturing and points scoring from both networks horribly tiring. Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly are essentially the same self-righteous person taking easy shots across the political fence.

Anyway, this is seriously off-topic now, so to bring it back: I agree with the OP, the Beeb's research when it comes to Southend and the lower leagues in general is generally pretty shoddy.

Actually, sport aside (where, it seems, all the researchers are interns) I've found the BBC to do a pretty good job of reasonably objective journalism compared with the populist bias of, say, Sky News or any newspaper. Love it or loathe it, because of the public money it is obliged to provide balanced reporting, even if it does have a very middle class air.

Compare this to what you'll find in the Sun or the Guardian, which is essentially editorial opinion with a few facts thrown in to keep it current. I'll pass over some other culprits for now.
oh ok ;the real world awaits you comrade

What utter bollox!

What makes their laziness worse is Hull City's Boothferry Park being opened in 1946, which by my O Level History reckoning was after WWII too! I'm shocked you guys didn't know that!!

Wikipedia pah! (you can put in your own definitions :) )

If you are going to use it in a negative sense you would need to indicate that with some accompanying word or words.

No matter. Your somewhat unusual id reminds me of a fine goal scored by the great man himself at Stockport years ago. A defender was deliberately standing over the ball at a free-kick. Bentley got very annoyed with him and took a fast run up attempting to kick the ball as hard as possible at the defender from more or less point blank range. The defender somehow got out of the way and the ball absolutely screamed into the net. Happy days.

My apologies, Bentley's Absurd Gait. Not for correcting your mis-use of words whilst being rude to a fellow Shrimper, but for assuming your ID was a throwback to Tony Bentley who did indeed have a somewhat unusual gait. What with the Canada connection, too. Oh and thank you; I've never had one of those quaint little red squares before.

You're welcome Michael, something of a knee jerk reaction I fear, especially as you seem to be an all round good egg.
