Does anyone know what plants we can and can't eat

Thats exactly my point, most people don't know. Ask a kid to identify a birch tree or cedar and they would just look at you like you were quite mad. Give em a xbox and Modern Warfare and they will finish it within the hour. Thats what I was getting at. A lack of practical knowledge is only going to speed up the process of lack of survival through ignorance.

But I'd hope most people could tell the difference between a cedar and a strawberry though.....

You can't eat either can you?

I was thinking the same thing while watching survivors.
We already have housing and books in how to identify plants and how to grow a garden, so a huge big allotment shouldn't be to hard to maintain.
As for meat well there is plenty of fish in the sea and a few long lines would sort out a fish meal or two.
As for fire we have paper, wood and other flammable objects that once alight would keep us warm during the winter, after all just chopping down the trees in my road would see me through a winter or two

Yep, and some of them are quite surprising. You can make an entire salad out of flowers, yet there are one or two you may have in the garden/on the patio that'll kill you.

Can't do the animal thing, but I started growing veg for the 1st time last year. If I do say myself what a success apart from the beetroot had loads of it ended up spoiling. But my potatoes, carrots and beans did really well, used them right up.

If you need any advice, let me know.
