if i was manager - the team for Saturday ?

To me Hunt looks weaker with Black in front of him than with Gower/Macca

Personally I don't like the lack of width the current Midfield gives but not as much as i do like 4 wins on the trot.
To me the recent "blip" in form has been down to Harrold not playing, true he is never going to score a bucketful of goals but this season we have been bagging them almost at will from the midfield when he is in the side.
he holds the ball up long enough to allow the midfield (perm any one from 3) to push on, tucking in behind Leon. This then allows them the option of a shot or threading the ball to Clarke.
Eric in the side meant that Clarke became the target man , he wasn't holding it as long and not finding the midfield , which lost possession and then put us under pressure.
Harrold in for Eric- The only change on Saturday. Watch Harrold on Saturday, it won't be pretty, it wont be net busting but the Midfield will be a vast improvement on last week and when they are singing we are winning

Harrold does hold the ball up very well, and his movement and work rate off the ball was very good against Doncaster, agree that he wont be the most prolific of goalscorers but what he does do is give Clarke that extra bit of space to work with.

Harrold and Clarke up front for me. (but I'm not the manager) !

Have you lost leave of your senses man?

I just think he should be given a run in the team as a striker rather than being shafted out on the wing for 10 minutes here and there. He was brilliant when playing for Shelbourne over here up front and I reckon he can reach that form again if given a run of a few games

It a little annoying the whole harrold thing, bristols rovers aside I thought he had been playing well during 'the run' and felt we missed him a little on saturday, but he is a bit pants. Clarke is not a target man that for sure it seems he needs a Harrold alongside to free him up for the good stuff rather than the ugly stuff.

As soon as I saw the bit where you drop Clarke, I realised it must be a wind-up.

You are Rafa "pointless rotation" Benitez and I claim my £10.

Im still completely undecided about Foran. Think he does a job on the wing but not really seen him do much up front, although he hasnt really had much opportunity to either.

Can he put himself about and win headers/knockdowns ? Can he control the ball, hold it up the ball and play others in ?

Certainly Ive seen him have games where he wins lots of headers, admittedly against full backs rather than centre backs. Not sure about the rest though.

After witnessing some of his 'shots' against Leeds at home last year, I'm not too sure Foran can do much of a job upfront, although he looks fairly competent on the wing.

Spot on. This would be my team as well. Three narrow, one wide, with the option on the bench to go 2 wide if we have to chase the game. Harrold to start and link-up play, Eric on the bench in case we need some pace late on in the game.

Is this the 87th minute chasing the game or the 89th minute introduction of pace late in the game?

Seriously though, we all have differing opinions as to who blends with who, some completely barking like the opener in this thread & others sensibly considered. But most of us use the proviso "if that's not working we could do this.....". Unfortunately those in charge very rarely do anything of the sort until the the fat lady has well & truly sung & been down the kebab van for a blowout burger to boot!

The 89th minute, as hopefully we'll be winning (the 85th minute sub being when we are losing).

Its a lot easier for us to play fantasy football than it is for Tilly to drop players or take them off after an hour. Subbing someone at half time Barry Fry style may work, but it may also eat away at their confidence. Tilly has to look at the bigger picture.

Billy Paynter for example only once played 90 minutes for us (a cup game, when Tilly lacked options on the bench), all the other games he was hauled off early. For Swindon he's only been subbed once, late on for a midfielder in what looks like a tactical charge to try and preserve a lead. At Swindon he's been playing with confidence, whilst at Roots Hall he looked devoid of it. Maybe Paynter would have benefitted from Tilly giving him a vote of confidence and leaving him on 90 minutes and subbing Freddy instead. Maybe, just maybe that might just have been the spark of confidence he needed. Probably not, but it might have been worth a go. Tilly's success has been very much built around giving the players confidence to go out and express themselves. Maybe his late substitutions are part of this?

gilbert richards hunt hammell

black moussa baily gower

had a quick rethink - this would have been fun in the paints pot -

well I expect Sir Steve will be conservative as usual altho' he can make changes now as his never change a winning team thing has gone out the window -

anyway IF I WAS MANAGER I would start as below and make two subs. early in the second half - unless we were 3-0 up -

easy first decision as blaming the goalie for chaos at the back has been shown to be all wrong -

Darryl

Gilbert Clarke Barrett Hammell

Black Bailey Macca Gower

Charlie M Harrold

after 60 mins - Maher comes on for either Gower or Black
and Leon comes on for Charlie M -

the thing is I don't think i am going to get a chance to implement my ideas -
but look how we can attack down the wings - and younger legs in midfield should be able to cope and then Kev comes on 2nd half to boss it -

oh well - what would you do ?

you would seriously sit out leon who is our only striker who has scored in the league and is playing well. this makes no sense what so ever and for him to be replaces with harrold isn't exactly the best idea to be kind.

If I was manager the only I would pick the team as on the other thread, and put Harrold out on loan as a minimum, as a striker who works hard and doesn't score , and doesn't figure highly, if at all in the assists ratings wouldn't get into my squad, let alone team.

What do I know
4 changes, Hunt has a blinder with black in front of him. In mitigation , your honour, I would like to point out that the first goal came from hold up play by the forwards allowing the Midfield, Bailey, to push on and receive the lay off.

I didn't feel that Hooper offered as much as Harrold ,back to goa, but as the ball was not being pumped forward as often (No Richards perchance) His supiority going forward made a difference. Also Clarke looked better than he has with Eric, he certainly showed he doesn't take to being the main target man
