if i was manager - the team for Saturday ?

Rayleigh boy

Director⭐
well I expect Sir Steve will be conservative as usual altho' he can make changes now as his never change a winning team thing has gone out the window -

anyway IF I WAS MANAGER I would start as below and make two subs. early in the second half - unless we were 3-0 up -

easy first decision as blaming the goalie for chaos at the back has been shown to be all wrong -

Darryl

Gilbert Clarke Barrett Hammell

Black Bailey Macca Gower

Charlie M Harrold

after 60 mins - Maher comes on for either Gower or Black
and Leon comes on for Charlie M -

the thing is I don't think i am going to get a chance to implement my ideas -
but look how we can attack down the wings - and younger legs in midfield should be able to cope and then Kev comes on 2nd half to boss it -

oh well - what would you do ?

I would start with our best players. Maher and Clarke would be in that 11.

If I was manager I wouldn't drop Collis as he hasn't done anything wrong. Darryl will have to earn his recall, as he himself admits in that echo article.

Collis

Gilbert / Hunt Clarke Richards Barrett

Gower Maher Bailey McCormack

Clarke Harrold

I'd like to see Francis given some time so he can get some match fitness back as well.

Collis

Francis Clarke Barrett/Richards Hammell

Bailey Macca Maher Gower

Leon Harrold (only because he battles and does have the height) otherwise ...MaccyD

If I was the manager I'd make TTK coach, Wiggy goalkeeping generalissimoess, let them pick the team between them, go down the pub until 5pm and then turn up for the press conference to take all the credit for the win and 3 points which would undoubtedly come our way.

Dropping Clarke who is the one player up front who has scored ? Hmmn...

For the keeper as Ive said elsewhere too much blame is being laid at Flahavans feet here, however Collis took the chance given to him due to injury and was good against Tranmere so should keep his place.

I cant see how the team will be different from :

Collis
Hunt
Barrett
Richards
Clarke
Bailey
McCormack
Maher
Gower
Clarke
Harrold

Personally Id play Black ahead of Gower and Francis ahead of Hunt.

Our last 6 League games:

Won 4 Lost 1 Drawn 1
Goals Scored 11
Goals Conceded 6

Your conclusion: Drop our in-form goal-scorer, drop the captain, change the goalkeeper, shore up our "shambolic defence" with the Barrett-Clarke partnership we've all come to know and love, decimate the team currently showing promotion-form, and then play Maher on the wing if it isn't working?

Well, you've won me over!

Well, you've won me over!

look i've put in 4 the job at Norwich and Palace - AND trying to be imaginative AND make an impression here in case Steve gets tempted away -

and look whats gone on at Chelsea - re-inforcing the management from all over - so be patient -

not playing Maher on the wing - reverting to the 3 centre mids -

its a great squad at the moment - would like to get Moussa in and give Eric a bit more time - and give Foran minutes against ****e hoofers - I find myself coming up with all sorts of combinations while we all probabley know who will be out there next week -

Collis
Hunt Richards Clarke Barrett
black maher macca gower
clarke harrold

Felt we lacked width on the right against tranmere and I dont think bailey is playing partic well at the moment

but nor does Richards and his distribution is a bit sickening

I think Richards has been really good since he came into the side and wins more headers than both Clarke and Barrett put together.

Id have him in the middle with Clarke or Barrett.

His distribution is poor as you say but I just want someone to be winning the ball in the middle which he does.

I agree with that.

Not been a big fan of the 3 cental midfielders but our performances have been better since they have been together.

Saturday it was pretty one dimensional and all attacks went down the left. Hunt put a couple of good crosses in but too much for him alone to do much more.

To me Hunt looks weaker with Black in front of him than with Gower/Macca

Personally I don't like the lack of width the current Midfield gives but not as much as i do like 4 wins on the trot.
To me the recent "blip" in form has been down to Harrold not playing, true he is never going to score a bucketful of goals but this season we have been bagging them almost at will from the midfield when he is in the side.
he holds the ball up long enough to allow the midfield (perm any one from 3) to push on, tucking in behind Leon. This then allows them the option of a shot or threading the ball to Clarke.
Eric in the side meant that Clarke became the target man , he wasn't holding it as long and not finding the midfield , which lost possession and then put us under pressure.
Harrold in for Eric- The only change on Saturday. Watch Harrold on Saturday, it won't be pretty, it wont be net busting but the Midfield will be a vast improvement on last week and when they are singing we are winning

Spot on in your assessment there, FS. When Eric plays we certainly miss the 'target man', and whilst I too prefer to see us with two out-and-out wingers when playing at home I'm happy to see us stick with the system that brought us 13 points from a possible 18.
