So I was browsing some news articles from a few months back with the key word being Southend United and to my surprise I found an article that stated that Ian Wright had a trail with us which I assume would have been in the late 80s?
Is this common knowledge?

Question Thread 'Ian Wright'

Just been reading this piece on football365 about late starters in football.

Number one is Ian Wright who, it is claimed, was rejected by Southend United. First I've heard of that. Can anyone back this up?

Also, my day has been made better by finding out that Les Ferdinand won the Turkish Cup. Not sure why, but it has.

I bet theres plenty we missed out on and a few we let go that turned out Gems . and i pretty sure its the same with most clubs not just Southend .
Pretty sure its just the opposite also .we have picked up a few gems that were discarded by others .
 
I believe that ex England and Man Unt player Gordon Hill was on our books , scored in the reserves before going to Southall . I think Arthur Rowley said when they let Gordon go that he never used to turn up for training .

Thanks for the info, I was only down at Southend when my brother was on trial and I was asked to play a few youth games with your team, Arthur Rowley was your manager. I never joined so how they came up with, "he did not understand the tactics" is rubbish, It was at United under Dave Sexton I said I do not understand his tactics. You had a great player in Peter Taylor, who I got on well with, that is about all I did for Southend sorry.
