Question How happy would you be if we sold Barnard in January?

really really not happy !!!!!!!

We should do everything in our power to get him to sign a new contract.

forgetting about the footballing aspect from a purely financial perspective we give him a big pay rise to sign for two years, he keeps banging them in and we sell in teh summer for substantially more than the £300,000 being quoted for a Jan sale. We therefore get him for a few extra months and make more cash from it . Clerly a risk as he could get injured but a risk worth taking IMO.
I know we have a wage structure but every rule has an exception and when you are one of the top scorers in the division its worth making an exception.

wouldn't be happy at all if he goes but hey, there will be better clubs looking to grab him so i don't blame him if he does go. and if he does go we need to get another quality striker because he's the only guy who is scoring goals for us, other than laurent but barnard has got 16 this season already! we seriously need another quality striker

I'd be happy if Dr.Warchest gives us a blog.

Then i'll complain about it and say he's spouting bollocks :)

Thing is we dont have any power to exert to get him to stay if he doesnt want to.

We at best could give him a payrise, any CCC club would match or better that and give him higher level of football.

We have nothing to offer him that clubs in the division above cant do better.

If he wants to leave and clubs come in then theres nothing we can do about it...

I think a point everyone has missed is this, this is his first season for many that he hasn't broke down injured. Other football people will know this only too well as will Barney himself. His only chance of a big move to a championship club ( he isnt good enough for premiership ) is to be out of contract come the summer so clubs don't take as much of a chance on him.
It's a big shame as I've always rated Barney but the lad wants to see how far he can go in the game so good luck to him.
If however he did go in January for some cash then I don't believe he would replaced with a perm signing, as I'm sure we don't need reminding, we are skint !

I think we're better of keeping him, with the knowledge that his goals will keep us in this league.

If we did sell him, it'd be between £100k-£200k, which isn't enough money to justify league 2 football.

Very unhappy!:(

Having been one of Barney's biggest ravers from the days when not everyone had faith in his ability, I am pleased for him that all his hard work is paying off with his fitness this season - but being top scorer in the League was always going to put him on the radar for those clubs desparately seeking goals - quality finishers are hard to come by, especially at what could be a good value for money price for someone of Lee's ability.

As most have said, we would have to buy to replace him, we could not afford to replace 'like with like' so we would be relying on Tilly to yet again work his magic and find that someone on a budget.

However, all that said, I still think that there is a possibility that if Tilly does plan on taking us into that new stadium, he may well be able to convince Barney to stay - Tilly stuck by Barney when he had all his injury problems and that counts for something - and we know what can happen to the 'Big Fishes' when they go to that 'Big Championship Pool' - the water is not always bluer!

So we do nothing - is that what you are advocating?

off course he wants to stay-- he just might not realise it yet. ;)

Whilst he is still our player we have influence, and influence is power. Is it enough though- that none of us know.

Yes it is, Id just keep him until the summer and then if he wants to leave then thats that.

The alternative is we sell him and try to make a couple of hundred thousand and risk relegation, Id say staying in League One is more than worth what we would get for him now.

As for influence, whilst he is our player we wont have to sell him, but we have no real say in it now, it all depends on Barnards ambitions. If we are going to sit in mid table for the next few seasons then who can blame him for wanting to move on...

Sadly we dont have much of a pedigree in that department. Eastwood and Barnard were good acquisitions, as was Hooper (although we didnt make the most of him).

However we also had Paynter, Harrold, Revell, Walker, Foran etc who between them cost around £700,000 in transfer fees alone.

Finding quality strikers is extremely difficult and to do so with what little money we have is going to be a struggle.

Would not be to happy if Barnard was sold simply because if he goes no one else is capable of scoring the amount he can going by current form.

If we get a decent enough offer then i would expect Barney to be sold.

Quoted on Sky today, Tilly saying we've had no enquiries as yet.....early days admittedly. Would be an interesting scenario if we managed to get into the play offs and win promotion, would he be tempted to stay then and sign a new contract?

The deadline to sell is the end of January, we have 8 games by then. If we pick up 6 points (we have 32 points) then it would need a big offer to sell him, if we get 14 (40 points) then we would stay up comfortably without him so sell.

Hopefully he will sign a contract though, but I can't see it.

I'd have a massive Tommy Tank, watch 5 episodes of Loose Women, then treat myself to a Papa Johns Large Meat Feast.

That's how happy I'd be.
