Question How happy would you be if we sold Barnard in January?

The rumour mill seems to indicate that we would sell Barnard in January if the right offer came in.

I am split on this one and would keep him if possible. But on the other hand, dont want another Peter Clarke and see him go on a free when we could have made some money on him.

Interested to hear what everyone thinks. Maybe we are lining up Spencer to take over???

The general feeling is that we would get between £200-300,000 for him january.
Now me personally would prefere to keep his goals until May, and let him go for nothing after staying in this division, because without his goals we would be doomed this year.....and i wouldnt fancy our chances of getting any descent players whilst playing lge 2 next year.

I think Ron and Tilly know we have no other goal scorer at the club, so selling would condem the club to almost certain relegation......its a no brainer. He wont go jan

Then he walks in June for free. If he won't sign a new contract then get what we can for him.

...and lose out on what he could have given for us.

i'd rather he banged in another 10-15 goals than went for a few quid.

I'd rather keep him and lose him in the summer, In January there isnt a great deal of movement with clubs at this level and I'd seriously worry about us getting a replacement and we'd lose a hell of a lot of goals.

Am i right in thinking that when we bought him from spurs that they had the lions share of any profit from any future sell on deal.If this is the case then we should keep him as we arent going to make much out of the deal and we need his goals.

Im Not Sure how it works but surely his agent would get him to sign a new contract , if not sold in January , so that he could get his cut of the transfer fee. Correct me if I'm wrong.

the agents wins most ways.

If he signs a new contract with us, he gets a cut
If we sell him, the agent gets a cut
If he leaves on a free, the agent will get a cut when he signs to a new club

If the agent thinks he can get more money by getting Barney to sign a new 1 year deal, and then getting Barney to think a summer move for around a mil is a great idea, he will.

If he thinks he can get more from Barney going in january, he will

and so on...

To be honest, he is worth far more than we could command for him (due to his contract) so it would be a bad deal all round.

I think he will stay until the summer then move on, so Ron Martin can point to the fact that he cost £1m whilst he was here, and that is the reason we have no money.

I mentioned this idea on a previous thread and still recon it's a good way forward and maybe there is someone on this forum in a position to actually put this plan forward.

we raised a substansial ammount of money the shrimpers trust now holds.

If not sold Barney will go in the summer for nothing and we will all be miserible. Offer the money (or part of it) as a incentive "bonus" to Barney for signing a new contract.

It may not work, but it's a heart warming little tale of a club that didn't want to see one of their favourites go. the echo would have a field day!

The way I look at it is he will probably command around £300K because of his goals, and time on his contract (He'd be worth much more if he still had another year left).

Who can we bring in, in January, for £300K who has the potential to do what Barnard has done already this season? The January transfer window is a bad time to buy. Prices are always over the top this time of year, and everyone is shopping for the same thing therefore people like Le Fondre (Who would be an excellent signing) at Rotherham will probably go for upwards of £500K because of his early season form.

If Tilson/Brush/Martin think we can bring in someone, either on loan on permenantly for under £300K then they will sell. Personally, I don't think there is. A new signing would have to fit into our system, move from their current location, make new friends, get used to different ideas and players. Ideally you'd buy in the summer to give them that additional time to adjust, but we don't have that luxury.

We wouldn't get the money to spend, it would be absorbed by debt.

like I said it's all going to end in tears unless we get a contract extention.
